By some estimates, a couple of thousand tigers live in Texas, many in backyards and most not registered with the state, which is believed to be the second-largest tiger population in the world behind India.

Texas allows ownership of exotic pets and requires owners to register their animals with the state, but as of February only 50 tigers were recorded, said Chris Van Deusen, spokesman for the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Animal rights advocates say many tigers go unregistered because county enforcement of the registration rules is often lax.

They hunt by night, Sanguine. Silently. Stalking. Pounce.

Of course they're endangered in Asia.  Everyone knows tigers live in the jungles of Africa.

That would only be fair as there are lions in India.

I thought I read though, not too long ago, Ocelots or some cat, use to live in parts of Texas but have become rather rare.

"In the United States, it inhabits southern Texas and southern Arizona.[4][5]"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocelot

I've read of jaguars so I looked that up:

"Though there are single cats now living within the western United States, the species has largely been extirpated from the United States since the early 20th century."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar

The closest I've been to ocelots was in the belly of a Lufthansa 707. Beautiful animals.

I guess Texas does have an answer to the feral pig problem up it's sleeve.

Back in the late 60's, I was hunting outside of Yoakum Tx and a black panther crossed the road right in front of us.

Doesn't strike me as such a great idea.

My avatar shows the national debt in stacks of $100 bills.  If you look very closely under the crane you can see the Statue of Liberty.

We had a cougar living in a tree in Fort Bend county a year or two ago.
It was at  the Fort Bend Country Club golf course.

(Now it wasn't a University of Houston Cougar).

Buck Owens, nice.

Don't forget Roger Miller's line "You can't drive around with a Tiger in your car".

I found the photo and called my mom. It was a plastic blowup Dino. And it was about 2-3x bigger than me, since I was about two. According to mom, I dragged that poor thing all over the house.

I still have my stuffed tiger from my babyhood too, it's preseserved in a plastic bag because it's so frail.
