Slowik: Chicago’s Confederate monument reflects effort to heal divisions
 

The weekend violence that claimed the life of a peaceful protester in Charlottesville, Va., prompted me to wonder why there isn't more controversy surrounding Chicago's Confederate monument.

The National Park Service encourages people to visit Confederate Mound in Oak Woods Cemetery at 1035 E. 67th St. The historic site is featured among Civil War-era national cemeteries promoted by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
