Alan Dershowitz slams liberals for claiming Trump is mentally ill

Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz blasted liberals over the weekend for trying to "undo democracy" by claiming President Trump should be removed because he's mentally unstable.

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Dershowitz said that tactic from the left is "very dangerous."

"There's only one thing worse than trying to criminalize political differences, and that's trying to psychiatrize them," he said.

...     Since his surprise win, the country has been subjected to attempts to delegitimize Trump’s election by blaming “fake news” for tricking voters into supporting him, or a year-long obsession, still noticeably unsubstantiated, with the idea that he conspired with Russians to steal the election from Hillary Clinton. We’ve heard people desperately attempt to keep the Electoral College from voting for him, been told that damaging information from intelligence agencies would keep him from being inaugurated, and that the cabinet should pull a “24”-style move and oust him via the 25th Amendment.

Among those struggling to accept the fact that the American people elected Donald Trump in 2016, the 25th Amendment has been a go-to fantasy for a while, particularly among those who strongly dislike Trump’s less-interventionist foreign policy. Eliot Cohen reached for it in the very first week of the presidency.   ...

Politico got the ball rolling with “Washington’s growing obsession: The 25th Amendment.” The not entirely stable “Morning Joe” has been obsessed about a 25th Amendment removal for months, and here’s MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough tweeting out a New York Times article that quotes the academic who is trying to get Trump ousted. Here’s that New York Times article. It mentions a 25th-Amendment ouster five times. It being a day ending in -y, the Washington Post‘s Jennifer Rubin was talking about a coup.  ...

It can hardly be coincidence that President Trump’s election has sparked debates from certain members of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) about eliminating the Goldwater Rule. The rule was the consequence of a 1964 article in Fact magazine that published the results of a survey they’d given 12,356 psychiatrists asking whether Sen. Barry Goldwater was fit to be president.  ...

It seems what some psychiatrists deemed a necessary call, nay, an obligation to diagnosis from afar, turned out to be libelous. In 1973 the APA remedied this embarrassing display of amateurism by adding section 7.3 to their “Principles of Medical Ethics,” now known as the Goldwater Rule. The rule states:

    On occasion psychiatrists are asked for an opinion about an individual who is in the light of public attention or who has disclosed information about himself/herself through public media. In such circumstances, a psychiatrist may share with the public his or her expertise about psychiatric issues in general. However, it is unethical for a psychiatrist to offer a professional opinion unless he or she has conducted an examination and has been granted proper authorization for such a statement.

The same month the Republican nominee was announced, an article was published in The Journal of American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, called “The Ethics of APA’s Goldwater Rule,” wherein authors Jerome Kroll, and Claire Pouncey list scientific and practical concerns about why the rule was instituted. Their argument in favor of removing the rule is lengthy. ...

Who Is Crazy?

As Sen. Ted Cruz said last year, “The Democratic Party’s base is bat-crap-crazy,” especially when it comes to President Trump and will believe, do and say anything if they think doing so damages him.

More recently, they’ve latched on like leeches to Michael Wolff’s new book, “Fire and Fury,” which the author himself admits he’s not sure if everything is true.   ...

The latest is that Trump is mentally unfit for office, say those who claim there are 67 genders, see Russian boogeymen around every corner, boo God at their national convention, believe in global warming, sexually assault each other, idolize Che Guevara and shamefully stigmatize mental health issues to score political points.

So riddle me this: Who is truly crazy?
