Stan Brock, who found fame on Wild Kingdom and brought basic medical care to the isolated, dies at 82

Brock, born in England, rose to fame in the 1960s as a co-host, along with Marlin Perkins, of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. This was followed by occasional film appearances.

In 1985, he left Hollywood and established the Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps, which offers clinics in rural areas of the world, much of that in the United States. He was inspired by his childhood life in the Amazon River watershed, where medical care was weeks away. He was a vocal critic of the bureaucracy of the U.S. medical system and the barriers that state lines posed to providing medical care, especially in times of crisis.

Brock lived a meager life, residing at the RAM headquarters and living off a small portion of his Social Security check, the rest of which was donated back to RAM. RAM currently holds approximately one clinic a week somewhere in America, plus several a year around the world.

Brock died August 29 of unknown causes.

We know why he died. He was 92 years old. Damn few people are lucky enough to live that long and still be able to function. I am glad he was one of them.

With some of those wild life stunts, he was lucky he didn't meet the same demise as Steve Irwin.

I have seen this before, guess what? 2 years ago, Gene Wilder died, so somehow, some computer programs must have a problem with the dates... the BBC right now, has the death of Gene Wilder (Rest In Peace) among their current stories.

Look to their stories at the right: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-45392566

He did pass away though, on about this date, 2 years ago.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37248049

Nonetheless, RIP.

He is sort of like people that lived under communism in Eastern Europe, now free.

Too bad much of the free, open West is throwing it away, on post-modernism, socialism, political correctness etc.

[excerpt]

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/burt-reynolds-dead-deliverance-boogie-nights-star-was-82-831093

The ex-jock from Florida starred in 'Deliverance' and 'Boogie Nights' but preferred making such populist, fun fare as 'Smokey and the Bandit,' 'The Cannonball Run' and 'Starting Over.'

Burt Reynolds, the charismatic star of such films as Deliverance, The Longest Yard and Smokey and the Bandit who set out to have as much fun as possible on and off the screen — and wildly succeeded — has died. He was 82.

Reynolds, who received an Oscar nomination when he portrayed porn director Jack Horner in Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights (1997) and was the No. 1 box-office attraction for a five-year stretch starting in the late 1970s, died Thursday morning at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, his manager, Erik Kritzer, told The Hollywood Reporter.
My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

I really like Deliverance, I watched a few pieces at youtube where a lot of the locals object to that movie on how it depicts them.  Great movie but I take that into account when I watch it.

Jerry Reed, Jackie Gleason, and now Burt Reynolds are all gone.  Those were fun movies, but I'm sure they wouldn't be made today.  Someone would be offended -- not PC enough.  I guess too many people lost their sense of humor.

Smokey & the Bandit always takes me back to childhood.  The rural culture still had primetime exposure, though it often appeared in caricature form.  At some point that morphed into derision.

So young and talented.

He did a lot of 1950s tv -- Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock,  Perry Mason, also a couple of seasons of Gunsmoke.

I love watching old shows from the 50s-60s because you see a number of famous stars back when they were young, starting out and mostly unknown.

Thanks Mystery, but want to point out family does not mean family friendly. You didn't say family friendly but I took it to mean so (my bad).  One sections (fellow gets shot in foot) had about 15 F words in span of 30 seconds. Lots of Hanky Panky going on with other people's wives (one character is portrayed as a womanizer). No nudity so far but sexual acts with bras and no panties.

Burt has a role of the brooding hard butt father that is tough on his son, it is a role that serves him well.

That was one of the better of his movies that no one seemed to like. He was also in a decent TV police procedural  in 1970 that no one ever talks about. Dan August.

For years Burt claimed to have been born in Waycross, Georgia.

He was actually born in  Lansing, Michigan but I won't hold that against him.

Don't worry...I'm from Marshall, MI, and I'll hold it against him for you.

Never heard of him, but I'm not a rap fan.

It is alleged he had substance abuse problems and that he died from an apparent overdose.

May he find peace and may his loved ones be comforted.
