He was a good actor and I always enjoyed his performances. I didn't know he was sick. As for his private life, I didn't think his homosexuality was a secret.

I saw him a few other things, but as Martin Crane, he was exquisite.

What a shock!  I was just watching Frasier reruns on Netflix earlier this afternoon.  Mahoney's performance as the irascible beer drinking father having to contend with his pompous, sherry drinking sons was just perfect.

I read somewhere that contrary to his character in Frasier, Mahoney was very refined.   In fact,  David Hyde Pierce consulted with him about fine wine in preparation for his role as Niles.

Rest in peace, John Mahoney.

Great versatile actor. He could play the loveable and funny retiree like in Frazier to characters so evil you wouldn't lose sleep over pushing them out a helicopter.

John Mahoney also did well playing Kid Gleason, the manager of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, in Eight Men Out . . .

Not sure where to put this, but since Dennis Edwards' death was reported here, I thought this might be the place.

Interesting.  And if true, tragic.

Temptations singer Dennis Edwards allegedly abused before his death

Chicago police are investigating claims that the wife of Temptations singer Dennis Edwards abused the legendary vocalist in the months before his death.

A protection order request against Brenda Edwards alleging domestic abuse was reportedly filed weeks before Dennis died Feb. 1 at 74 of complications from meningitis.

Brenda allegedly tried to suffocate her husband of nearly two decades by holding his head face down on a bed, according to documents obtained by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

She also reportedly took her husband's hearing aids away from him while he was "bed bound and immobile," according to the protection request, reportedly filed by an investigator with the Healthcare Consortium of Illinois.

Lyricist-turned-activist John Perry Barlow dies at 70

Barlow, a songwriting partner with the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir from the 1970s through the early 1990s, is best known as a co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which advocated for a free and open Internet, a passion that Barlow carried throughout his last three decades of life. He died in his sleep Tuesday night (while no cause of death was given, he had previously suffered at least one previous heart attack three years prior and was battling numerous illnesses near the end of his life).

I didn't know what he did later in life, but I knew a lot of his work, as Bob Weir's main songwriter.
He also had a ranch, and one of the Kennedy kids was sent west out there to get their head straightened out, several years ago.
I can't remember which one now, but it was a Nightline story, if I remember correctly.

Genuine Hollywood royalty as sadly passed......

Mark Tenser, President of Crown International Pictures, Dies

http://variety.com/2018/film/obituaries-people-news/mark-tenser-crown-international-pictures-ceo-dead-dies-1202657371/

Quote
Mark Tenser, president and CEO of Crown International Pictures, died on Jan. 1.

Tenser became Crown’s executive VP in 1969 before he was promoted to president in 1973.  At the production company, he was known for producing low-budget films that appealed to teen audiences in the 1970s and ’80s. Tenser worked alongside his wife, Marilyn Tenser, for four decades. He was still running the company at the time of his death.

His work creating films like “The Pom Pom Girls” (which was produced for less than $1 million, and earned more than four times that amount), “My Tutor,” “Weekend Pass,” and “Tomboy” helped make Crown a powerhouse of the era.

Other producing credits included “Coach” and “The Hearse.” He also led ad campaigns on pictures such as “Malibu Beach,” “The Van,” and “Van Nuys Blvd.”

Tenser was born in New York and grew up in New Jersey before attending school at the University of Miami in Florida. He graduated with a degree in business administration, then moved to California, where he started working in sales with his father. He began at Crown as a distribution manager before moving up to be the executive VP.

Singer Daryle Singletary has died. The '90s country hitmaker was known for songs like "I Let Her Lie" and "Too Much Fun."
News of Singletary's death started to be spread on social media Monday morning with confirmation coming via SiriusXM's The Highway. The Georgia native was just 46 years at the time of his death. An additional source tells the Boot that Singletary had a blood clot and died at his home.
Singletary played concerts as recently as last weekend in Dadeville, Ala. and at Cowboy's Night Club in Lafayette, La. He also appeared at singer Mel Tillis' public memorial on Jan. 31. No news of Singletary's death has come on his official social media pages and his website appears to be down.

More on Vic Damone here:

He was a wonderful singer from the era of the big bands.  My mother had some of his albums.  She might have had a crush on him.  LOL

Rest in peace, Mr. Damone.

Marty Allen Has Died, Age 95
LAS VEGAS — Marty Allen, the baby-faced, bug-eyed comedian with wild black hair who was a staple of TV variety shows, game shows and talk shows for decades, died Monday night. He was 95.

Allen died in Las Vegas of complications from pneumonia with his wife and performing partner of the last three decades Karon Kate Blackwell by his side, Allen’s spokeswoman Candi Cazau told The Associated press.

Good Grief!  Almost all of the entertainers I grew up watching on Ed Sullivan are gone.  I remember Allen and his partner, Steve Rossi, performing on Ed Sullivan frequently.  This was back in the day when comedians were actually funny.    Allen didnt really have to say or do anything. Just looking at him could make you laugh.

Rest in peace, Mr. Allen.  Thanks for the laughs.

Former Little Rascal Lassie Lou Ahern dies at 97

Ahern appeared in Hal Roach's Our Gang shorts for a brief stretch in the mid-1920s, while the series was still composed of silent films. Other than a few brief returns to the screen, first on film during World War II and then in the 1970s on television, Ahern lived most of the rest of her life in obscurity; she remained on the fringes of the entertainment industry, working as a dance instructor for celebrities and (especially during the 1930s) maintaining a stage act with her sister Peggy. Her longevity (and young age at the peak of her career) made her one of the last surviving stars of the silent film era.

She died February 15 from the flu.

I've been watching The Crown on Netflix -- a dramatization of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.   One episode depicted her introduction to Billy Graham.  Turned out that they have had a lasting friendship for many years.  Rev. Graham reached many - from the lowest to the highest.

Rest in peace, Sir.

Billy was a humble servant of God. Welcome home.

I'm intrigued, @Free Vulcan . I heard Josh at an apologetics conference a few years ago - great speaker.

It was at Moody Bible where I attended for a couple of years for some post grad work. They came to speak one night and there was a get together afterward. I ended up sitting at a table with them and some others. They must of been pretty good friends because they were playing off each other and it was hilarious.

Attended a BG crusade as a kid at the Oakland Coliseum, it was a packed house.

Wonder if it would be packed today.

Son Franklin Graham's facebook message:
Quote
Franklin Graham
3 mins ·

My father Billy Graham was once asked, “Where is Heaven?” He replied, “Heaven is where Jesus is and I am going to Him soon!” This morning, at the age of 99, he departed this world into eternal life in Heaven, prepared by the Lord Jesus Christ—the Savior of the world—whom he proclaimed for nearly 80 years. He will be missed by our family, his colleagues, faithful ministry partners, and, yes, many around the world. But what joy he has to be welcomed by God the Father, and be reunited with my mother in the presence of Jesus who speaks peace to eternal souls.

What about you? When you depart this world do you know with certainty where you will spend eternity? You can know this today. Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). The one who comforts weary souls has given us this promise, “Let not your hearts be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me … I go to prepare a place for you … I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:1-4).

Just an FYI: there also are two threads in the National News/Current Events category about the Rev. Graham. Those eventually will be merged into this obituary thread.

I had the honor of working at the Billy Graham Association in Minneapolis decades ago, and I could feel the presence of the Lord, even when I walked in the building.

His ministry was amazing.  His character impeccable, his knowledge of Scripture deep and wide, his love of Jesus Christ deeper still.

I am SO thankful today that he is finally HOME.

Unlike other evangelist at least you didn't hear any scandals about him.
You apparently haven't been paying attention.

No truthful scandals.  (Wiki is a leftist source).

Billy Graham was a man of impeccable character who lived a Godly life for 99 years.

Millions of people heard the Good News of Jesus Christ through his ministry, and I'm guessing some of them are greeting him in Heaven and thanking him right now.

I read a used-book on Graham's crusades from the 1960s/70s and it was very fascinating.

That is a marvelous scene and one that made me respect both Billy Graham and the Queen even more.

As I understand it, the Queen received some flak over her friendship with Rev. Graham.  As Queen, she was also head of the Church of England and it was considered improper for her in that capacity to associate so closely withan individual of another faith.  But the normally stickler-for-tradition Queen apparently ignored the complaints and kept up her friendship with Rev. Graham.    I'm sure she benefitted greatly from his counsel.

I think her desire to be a woman of faith and to always do the right thing probably overrode the traditional ban on that kind of relationship.

And you're right.  I'm sure she benefitted enormously from his wise counsel.
