My son in London sent an email this morning saying he and Amy (the girlfriend) are going to take a walk on the Thames to have lunch - it is in the 50s there. He wanted to know what we are doing for New Year's. I wrote him we are stuck in the house with ice on roads and it will be 19 tomorrow. Not many times in the winter are we much colder than London.

So, it's TV New Year tonight and staying warm - I have a lovely purple wrap to keep me warm in the house. Maybe you do, too.

I should have added I don't know how anyone could stand outside in Times Square, New York City, for hours in the bitter cold to wait for the ball to come down. I heard there will likely be a million people there - and they will have medical people and ambulances ready. Will that many show up? I hope not.

I don't know if people in the North do that or if they know what they are. Growing up in east Texas, my parents grew Black Eyed Peas, so we had our canned ones on New Year's day.

I don't either. They don't have food or bathrooms. I can't figure the technical aspects out. You can bring snacks with you, but no bathrooms?

We are enjoying a comfortable 60 degrees. I put northern beans and hamhocks in the crockpot which we'll have tomorrow for New Years Day dinner. Hubby and I went out to a very nice gastropub for dinner (xmas present from our daughter) and we'll be ringing in the New Year from the comfort of our family room recliners.

Impressive.

Thunder Over Louisville (the official opening of the Kentucky Derby Festival) is pretty amazing, too. It lasts for ~30 minutes and is preceded by a enormous air show in the hours leading up to the fireworks. Tons of fun.
