Cook Political Report predicts Democratic 'wave' in 2018
By Brandon Carter - 11/17/17 09:30 AM EST

Cook Political Report, a top nonpartisan election handicapper, is predicting a wave of Democratic victories in the 2018 midterm elections.

In a new analysis, Cook editor Amy Walter says she feels a similarity to a wave of Democratic Congressional victories in 2006, in which the party took control of the House, the Senate and a majority of governorships during former President George W. Bush's second term.

“Back in 2006 ... I argued that unlike the last wave election of 1994, the party holding the White House was much better prepared. Republicans in 2006 had significant financial advantages,” Walter writes. “They had structural advantages. And, Democrats couldn’t sneak up on Republicans as Republicans had to Democrats in 1994. Obviously, my theory was wrong.”

Yup. It's as much Ryan's and McConnell's fault as it is Trump's. The new tax plan is a travesty.

So this idiot says there is going to be a wave election because he blew every other prediction. Swell logic.

The country is polarized now and it isn't in the Rats favor. Most of the country is red. There are not enough swing seats left for a wave like there were 10 years ago.

The media will just hammer Trump and the Republicans. The bad news is that it will probably crash the economy like it did in 2006. The media bad-mouthed the economy until people believed it and they shut down spending in the Fall. That killed the Christmas season where so many companies finally get into the black. The Democrats tried to fix the Recession by spending us into a trillion and a half dollar deficit.

How soon people forget.

Agreed!  And the Constitution party is going to grow rapidly!

By 2006 everyone had had enough of George W Bush. Trump has not yet blown his
presidency like W had in 06.

This has less to do with Trump and more to do with the do-nothing liberal-assisting bullshit of the Congress under the leadership of McConnell and Ryan.  They have proven the GOP is less than worthless and deserving only to be dumped into a grave next to the Whig party.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

I agree that there will be plenty of blame to go around, but if this report is correct, 2019 is likely to be a looooong year with the President consistently whining about how difficult it is to work with a Congress with an even smaller GOP majority (or worse yet, with a Democratic majority).  This will be an epic failure of political leadership by McConnell, Ryan, AND Trump (who, by the way, is the leader of the Republican Party).

That may depend on Roy Moore’s fate in December.  They wanted him as their national candidate in 2004, ‘08, and ‘12.

Lets see what happens with tax reform. If the Pubs pass this and it includes an end to the individual mandate tax they will have come pretty close to fulfilling 2 big campaign promises. If they don't blow it with amnesty and no wall things could turn around pretty quickly. Right now the Rats have all the energy because the Pubs have failed so miserably at keeping their promises.
