My fervent hope is that is that Mattis and Kelly can keep these idiots in the WH from killing us all but I'm not optomistic.
Problem is, the current idiots are in this predicament because of two decades of preceding idiots who did nothing. History isn't on the side of fervent hope.
Near the mid 20th Century, leaders did nothing when a madman with bad intentions repeatedly violated agreements and dared anyone to stop him. There were talks, concessions, and more agreements, because everyone remembered how terrible the previous war was and didn't want another. That, unfortunately, led to the worst conflict the world had seen, because nobody would do what was required until it was too late.
Almost two decades ago, we found ourselves with an administration coming in with a controversial victory after two terms of liberal ineptitude. During that era, a foreign adversary had declared repeated intention to harm us. Within a year, we had 9/11. Now, we find ourselves in a similar position. I don't know if something catastrophic will happen again domestically, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if a major event happens sometime before the end of the year that requires our intervention.
