The hat, much as the cape outfits are her suits of armor.   She tucks her arms inside the cape so he can't force her to hold his hand.  The hat kept his kiss away.  She wins the game, most times.

Perhaps, but I think the dress is absolutely hideous.  The dress would have been much classier without the bottom lace that covered her shoes and instead made it cocktail length accompanied by a pair of her awesome stilettos.

I like the dress.  I think the length is good for the formality of the occasion; if she’d worn cocktail, she might have looked underdressed compared to Macron‘s wife.  But yeah, I do want to see those gunmetal pumps.

Why does Macron always push her head forward and tighten her lips with those bug eyes?
