The problem there is that Iran has more control of the Syrian military than Assad.

True.  I'm just trying to think of something that could function as a Syrian government if and when Assad is gone.  The alternative is handing Syria over to the jihadis, and that is simply unthinkable.

Is it just me, or does it seem possible that this might have been somewhat emotion-driven?  Trump mentioned the dead children and babies, and he's been talking about them since it happened.

Russia is pretty much our equal and Putin clearly isn't intimidated by us. Lil Kim is a nut job who will happily sacrifice every last man woman and child in NK and many thousands in SK. Iran is run by 12er nutcases who actually want Armageddon.

Funny thing though, many of the posters who are now cheering Trump "getting tough" with Putin are the same ones who just months ago,  told us that if we push back on Putin it was going to start a cold war.

@CatherineofAragon - I think it's entirely possible that it's emotion-driven, but not because of the dead children.  He needs to set himself apart from Obama (a good thing), but my worry is that he's not thought beyond that.  Unfortunately, this isn't one where he can just make it up as he goes along, and declare bankruptcy if it doesn't work.
