Both pilots are safe and in the hands of the PG County Fire Department.

...waiting for verification if any homes were hit.

No houses hit

"It is not clear if the jet was taking off or landing."

Landing. Definitely landing.

Looks like the pilot(s?) is OK. Nothing about ground casualties. The plane was an F-15 or F-16 or some kind of plane.

Was very close to houses (200 yards), but pilot got it down in a patch of woods. Top marks. Was a training flight by 113th Wing DC  Guard, which is responsible for DC air security.

Eyewitness also reporting a boom before plane went down and also shots like rifle fire. I realize this is sketchy.

Since 9/11, there is always at least one F-16 on eight minute alert status to take off in the case of emergency.

He said he ran into the woods after the plane crashed and saw the pilot standing up. Dotson said the pilot asked if the neighborhood was OK because he had live rounds on board.

Dotson said there were two jets involved, but only one crashed. Air Force officials have not confirmed a second jet.

Quite often, although the guns are not always able to be fired by the pilot. A full load for the gun(s) changes the flight characteristics noticably (screws with the center of mass), unlike anything hanging from the hardpoints which just slows you down a bit.

The pilot sounds like he has a very good head on his shoulders.
