This Presidency Is Failing -- and Stunningly
« on: April 01, 2017, 02:53:56 am »
Quote
Republicans got a leader who is impatient and easily distracted -- by cable news on the Russian scandal or by Arnold Schwarzenegger's TV ratings. The content and consequences of his tweets are bad enough; worse is the disordered personality traits they reveal -- vindictiveness, shallowness and lack of discipline. Trump spent a total of 18 days on his health care bill before demanding a vote. And he made no speech to the nation to advance his ideas -- as every other recent president would have done.

Republicans got an administration that is incompetent. The White House policy process has been erratic and disorganized. It has failed to provide expert analysis and assistance to Congress and did little to effectively advocate the president's policy in ways that unite the party.

Some of Trump's difficulties come from the fact that he is not a professional politician. he has never held a public office before.

Some of it comes from the fact on who he is
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Ok, so Trump has had a rocky start.  I suppose other presidents have had difficulties in their administration's too.  The problem is that Trump has not and will not learn from his mistakes. Hell, he won't even admit he has made mistakes. If he could stop being boss for a moment and try working with people, he might get things done.  Instead he is going to continue being the bully -- then when people balk at being ordered around and he can't get things done, he's going to find someone to blame.  That behavior is not going to help him advance his agenda.  Trump is going to fail.

Yeah, agreed. Other admins have had rocky starts too but I don't remember anything this bad. Plus with other Presidents I think they might be humble enough to learn from their mistakes, but I just don't see Trump doing that. Hence it will only get worse IMO.

Michael Gerson

He helped write George W. Bush's controversial second inaugural address that called for neo-conservative intervention and nation building around the world to effect the spread of democracy to third world countries.[6]

Gerson, a neo-conservative, has repeatedly criticized other conservatives in his column and conservatives have returned the favor. One of Gerson's first columns was entitled "Letting Fear Rule", in which he compared skeptics of President Bush's immigration reform bill to nativist bigots of the 1880s.[22]

At a conference at the Atlantic Ideas Fest, Gerson said that Saddam Hussein was "comparable to Pol Pot", which brought jeers from the audience.[23]

Ten weeks in. If it was Obama, he would have been given the Nobel Peace Prize by now, right?

Give me a break. I believe Trump horribly fumbled the healthcare issue - and continues to give up yards by refusing to listen to conservatives - but ten weeks is a little early for this kind of analysis.

Now, if Mr. Master Negotiator sits down with the Freedom Caucus and adopts the Cruz plan for healthcare, PLUS tort reform, PLUS transparent pricing, it will have all turned around.
How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.
4. When all else fails, remember rule #1 and #2. Emoticons are like the poor man's tweet!

And alot of it comes from the script the establishment progressives had written before Trump was inaugurated.

I do wish he'd stop with the self inflicted wounds, though.

I saw him speak yesterday, close up views of his face and he looked pale and had trouble speaking.  There was no spark there as in the past.  He seemed to be worn out.  Maybe that was a passing moment or maybe not.

Its who he is and its not going to change or get better. It will get worse.

We were told how he would begin to act presidential once he had the nomination in hand. He didn't. We were told he would act presidential once he gets into office. He didn't. Now I'm hearing that we've got to give him 6 months or a year and he'll settle into acting presidential. Its not going to happen. He's the same  tabloid TV celebrity he was in the 1980s and he isn't going to change.

Frankly I expect him to either resign or switch parties while blaming everybody else. Which route he chooses is entirely dependent on which will garner the most attention.

That article is a leftist hit piece.

As I was reading, I was thinking "sure, Trump's a tool, but what about some of the substantive things he's done, like Gorsuch, executive orders, cabinet picks, etc.?"  Then I got to the money quote, and the purpose behind the whole article became clear:

"Republicans got an administration that is morally small. Trump's proposed budget would require massive cuts in disease research, global development and agricultural programs -- just as a famine gathers a hideous strength. The proposed budget practices random acts of gratuitous cruelty.

The writer hates Trump because he's trying to do some conservative things, like cut the budget, that the writer doesn't like.  This isn't constructive criticism to help him work better with other Republicans.  The author is trying to weaken Trump politically and chop him off at the knees so he can't get any of it accomplished.   And that's been a common tactic by the entire left since the election.  Try to prevent anything of substance from being accomplished by ceaselessly attacking him every chance they get, under the façade of giving helpful advice in good faith.

I do think Trump is getting a lot more of substance done than anyone in the media is willing to acknowledge.  That said, he is also failing to inspire the nation, and his popularity is too low for him to have the political clout to effectuate change in congress.

This presidency is looking more and more like a "Jesse Ventura" presidency.  That is something the USA cannot afford.

It's ironic.  The idiot left pressholes attack, fabricate fake news, harass and report 'with extreme bias' every move Trump makes and every syllable uttered from his mouth for the past ten weeks....  and then they come out with this steaming pile of...er... uh...observation.  Well..... duh.

Nice that the idiot left always manages to state the effing obvious, after the fact, re: something that they, themselves, are partially (mostly) responsible for.  Trump has been put under an ultra-biased microscope for those past ten weeks.  The ONLY thing he has failed America on is the Ryancare debacle.  Yet still they bleat....

And for the record.... even  in  total disarray and disunity.... GOP rule is still 100 (more like a zillion) times better than the damned Democratic Party's ""governing"".... which essentially equates to ramming their radical, leftist policies down every American's throats in true olde Soviet Russia tyranny-style.  Leftists want mob rule as with Obama and under a Clinton presidency, they would have continued to have it.  No, I'm not talking about the mob that represents throngs of people.  I'm talking about the DC mafia-style entitlement-pimp elitists.

So stuff it, lefties.  You can't do any better. You haven't done any better.  Not that you would ever acknowledge or admit that.  The only thing you do differently is march is lock-step when it comes to furthering your leftist goals AGAINST the will of most Americans.  To more of that I say... not just no...

but HELL no.

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of it.

Some of Trump's difficulties come from the fact that he is not a professional politician. he has never held a public office before.

Some of it comes from the fact on who he is

Some of Trump's difficulties come from the fact that he didn't know (and perhaps is still learning) the functionality of government; nor did it sink in before he took office that running a government is different than running a business.  Some of his difficulties are self-inflicted; his tweets and rants certainly don't help.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

With all due respect, this election cycle gave us two miserable choices. I don't understand with 7 billion people in the world we could not come up with two decent choices?
