Never will understand why in the world someone with 10lbs of cocaine in his car would speed. Are you insane? Are you stupid?
Oddly enough, going too slow is just as dangerous as speeding, because it is abnormal driving and will attract attention.
Just put the cruise control on the speed limit and relax. That should be all there is to it. But it never is with a lot of those guys.

Yes, but you might think if they've got the dough to spend/waste on drugs, they'd be a little more cautious about taking care of their vehicle and not driving like an idiot so as not to attract the fuzz. From watching a lot of LivePd (the wife's favorite program) that would be a wrong assumption.
Apparently, many druggies think they can drive like maniacs, leave their car in a poor state, and nobody important i.e. the police will notice.

@goatprairie

You are missing the point. ALL these people think about 24/7 is getting high. Even sex comes in second place. They are literally slaves to their addictions just like gamblers or alcoholics. NOTHING matters but the next high.

"that would be a wrong assumption."
Read my previous posting.  You are correct, and I've admitted that would be an error to think they would not screw up. Druggies by nature don't think logically, or they wouldn't be druggies. At least the ones who constantly get caught.

You have to remember that with anyone who is addicted or displaying such behaviour, the first and last love is the substance or substances in question. As such, all else becomes a mere means to an end. With heavy drinkers, as a rule, vehicles are in rough shape as well. They become oblivious to anything from the odor of pot in the vehicle to the accumulation of empty cans and bottles. The vehicle, so long as it moves, tends to be neglected, with minor maintenance relegated to stuff that 'will be gotten around to, someday'. In the meantime, what money is available goes to their first love.

Psychologists say that many criminals have no sense of the future. Their brains have some defect to where they can only think in the present tense. Now, is all they know. Like an animal. It is not that they ignore the consequences of their actions, because consequences simply never occurs to them.

When you think of famous criminals like Bonnie and Clyde, or Dillinger, or even bank robbers today, standing toe to toe with the Police firing automatic weapons. It would be normal to think about how brave those criminals must have been. In reality they weren't brave at all. They simply could not comprehend mentally that they could die. With many criminals it is not about 'bravery' as we think of it; it is more about a mental defect which governs their behavior.

This inability to process future events or consequences helps give them strength during the crime. However that same characteristic is usually what gets them caught.

So you're agreeing with me that the sight of a shoddy-looking car possibly speeding or doing some other traffic violation would support the assumption the driver is likely to be a druggie?

While many 'druggie cars' will exhibit those characteristics, those characteristics don't necessarily mean the person is a druggie (marijuana odor excepted). There is a possibility they can't afford, do not have the know-how to DIY, or otherwise are unable to do much to fix the vehicle. Not everyone living out of their cars is a junkie.

With that disclaimer in mind, the likelihood that the person behind the wheel or owner has a substance abuse problem is higher than with a nice new shiny vehicle, or even a well kept older one. Addicts are primarily concerned with their addiction, to the detriment of all (and I mean ALL) else.

Police routinely pull over drivers who are driving at night with their headlights off (easy to do in a well lit town). I was informed that one driver in four doing that will be DUI. They go where the odds of a bust are best.

Nah... My truck is 40 years old, if I had to tell you a color, it'd be calico, which suggests three colors, which is more or less true at this time, but somewhat subject to change. The locks don't work, and don't need to. The key ain't worked right in 30 years  you have to turn it on and push a button.

And I drive it like a rented mule - Not likely to pay a lot of mind to speed limits, other than in town, and around schools especially....

All the criteria you present - And I am mostly sober as a judge... I mean, I ain't been lit in decades, though I will have a beer or two upon occasion.

A typical hillbilly truck for a typical hillbilly. Not too concerned about appearances... In fact, I avoid the appearance of wealth with studious purpose. It ain't that all that pretty crap don't matter to me, in fact, it offends me. I LIKE that all y'all would call it a piece of crap.

But in the mean time, where it counts under the hood, that truck is pretty likely to pull yours in half. Mechanically, it is all about performance, and in pristine condition.

So careful judging books by their covers and all...

My bad. I was ignoring Farm/ranch/work trucks, which often get a few dings and may have a light out or some such, just from hard use. As a rule, even on cars that look like demolition derby refugees, I make sure the mechanicals work and the lights all function, preferably with the appropriate lenses in place (or some suitable substitution).

"Act natural."
But don't overdo it. I met a guy that went to prison for smuggling meth across the border. He got pulled over in Arizona. He got pulled over for speeding and did the whole 'act natural' song and dance for the Cop. Then he told me something I've never forgotten.

He said everything was going great. The Cop told him what to do and the approximate costs, and he laughed. He laughed. He said that's what busted him. Everything was fine until he laughed. The Cop changed immediately. Nobody laughs. Nobody thinks getting a ticket is 'funny'. And he wound up in prison.

He was trying so hard to act natural and nonchalant that he went too far. And it got the Officer's attention. He should have been at least a little pissed about it. He should have lied about how fast he was going. That's all hindsight now.

It's all good Joe... But that ain't no farm truck. It's a mountain truck, built around a 203/205 doubler transfer case... Pretty honest 450/500 horses running that... Trying to get a 5 spd w/overdrive weaseled in there, which will make it a dream on the highway... Other than the lift and the 35x13.50 swampers you'd never know what you're in for...  Think rat-rod, but 4wd

Don't really need rock climbing pickups here in the 'flats'. Just enough to bust drifts and get out of the mud.

OMG!!!!

A new thread is needed for the Adventures of a NY Woman.

Yesterday AOC got in a Tweet dust up  with Ted Cruz concerning Pence's qualification to handle the Cornovirus task force.

The woman actually cited being runner up at a Science Fair to demonstarte her scientific accumen cred.

This is the funniest damned thing I have seen in months.  Responses to her Tweet are golden.

The intelligence of Ted Cruz vs. AOC.    Talk about extremes.

Florida man stands naked in his driveway, throws rocks at passing cars

Brevard County Deputies were called to a Port St. John neighborhood Tuesday and found Duy Khanh, 34, standing nude in the driveway of his home (...) throwing rocks and hitting cars. Khanh is being charged with the exposure of sexual organs, jail records show.

That's what I was thinking. Pretty tame considering past Florida man acts. Maybe if he was sticking his head down a gator's mouth while throwing the rocks, it would rate a higher number. I give it a five on a scoring system of one to ten.

Florida man with coronavirus says hydroxychloroquine saved his life

Giardinieri said he contacted an infectious disease doctor about the drug.

“He gave me all the reasons why I would probably not want to try it because there are no trials, there’s no testing, it was not something that was approved,” said Giardinieri.

“And I said, ‘Look, I don’t know if I’m going to make it until the morning,’ because at that point I really thought I was coming to the end because I couldn’t breathe anymore,” Giardinieri continued.

“He agreed and authorized the use of it and 30 minutes later the nurse gave it to me.”

After about an hour on an IV with the medicine, Giardinieri said, it felt like his heart was beating out of his chest and, about two hours later, he had another episode where he couldn’t breathe.

He says he was given Benadryl and some other drugs and that when he woke up around 4:45 a.m., it was “like nothing ever happened.”

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.
