Nasa announces press conference on 'discovery beyond our solar system'

Nasa will hold a press conference on Wednesday to present a "discovery beyond our solar system," leading to speculation that the announcement will involve planets capable of sustaining life.


The agency has offered no details on the upcoming presentation other than that it will involve "exoplanets".


Astronomers have been studying such planets, which orbit stars other than the sun, for clues as to whether, and where, life could exist beyond the earth.


Nasa has analysed dozens of planets that orbit sun-like stars at similar distances as the earth to the sun.

It might be a good time for NASA to talk about Nibiru--since it is a very hot topic all over the internet--but I doubt that they will do so.  Whatever Nibiru is, it is not an exoplanet, but our own solar system's "Planet 10" (or "Planet X" if we prefer a scarier name).

The name Planet X actually goes way back before the astronomers decided Pluto was not a planet--hence the Roman numeral for ten got used for what others call Nibiru or even Nemesis.  (Some folks think it might be the Bible's "Star Wormwood.")

Yes, I read this book as a kid, and still have it on my bookshelf. It's about Clyde Tombaugh's search for "Planet X", which ended when he found Pluto. Back then, "X" just meant "Unknown", not "Ten".
