Yemen reportedly bans US special operation ground missions after botched raid

A senior US military official told CNN Monday that intelligence collection wasn't the only objective of the recent military raid in Yemen. In fact, it was the leader of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula who had also been targeted. Pentagon officials say that if the leader, Qassim al-Rimi, wasn't there, the US military believed it would find intelligence that would help lead to him.

After the controversial US-led raid in Yemen that took the life of a US Navy SEAL and dozens of civilians, Yemen is reportedly barring the US  from further special-operation ground missions against terrorists in the region.

The New York Times on Tuesday night cited US officials who claimed the reaction among Yemenis was strong, after the operation left dozens of women and children dead.

Just for the record, I say Saudi Arabia has bombed the daylights out of Yemen though they haven't done it for what must be a few months. This seems pretty harsh above.

I thought 14 persons were left dead, regrettable but that isn't "dozens".

On the surface, this sure seems like bad news.

Throughout his administration, Obama has sold $115 billion in weapons to the Saudis, more than any other president.

FOR 21 MONTHS, a coalition of nations led by Saudi Arabia has been relentlessly bombing Yemen, using U.S.- and U.K.-produced weapons and intelligence in a war that has devastated Yemen and killed well over 10,000 civilians.

There is abundant evidence that the high civilian death toll in Yemen is the result of deliberate — not accidental — strikes by Saudi Arabia. During its air campaign, Saudi Arabia has bombed endless civilian targets — including homes, farms, markets, factories, water infrastructure, hospitals, and children’s schools — and has even gone so far as to use internationally banned cluster weapons, which are designed to inflict damage over a wide area and often remain lethal years after being dropped....

Saudi-backed Yemeni officials deny they banned US commando raids

From http://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2017/02/08/509687/US-Yemen-raid-special-operations

A story that may not be so per the original post but, this is an Iranian News Source I think saying that ban was not put in place.

A bit of a grey area in all of this.
