DeVos foes promise to make her job hell

The fight to derail DeVos, while unsuccessful, has united a wide variety of advocates.

It was a fight to end confirmation fights — for an Education secretary, no less. And after all the protests and phone calls against Betsy DeVos culminated in an all-night Democratic vigil on the Senate floor, Vice President Mike Pence cast a tie-breaking confirmation vote Tuesday — setting the stage for more bruising fights ahead.

All indications are the same groups galvanized by DeVos’ nomination are mobilizing for new battles on issues ranging from tuition vouchers and protections for LGBT students in schools, to free speech and sexual assault disciplinary policies on college campuses.

Of course they'll try. Too bad they don't make the rules. Or have the ability to do alot if the department undergoes big changes. Like closure. Like a redo of federal grants/loans/student loans. Like teacher requirements.

Say for example, annual refresher courses in the constitution. with a test.  For which failure means loss of credentialing. Which also means they could more easily be terminated as they obviously would have 'understood' the laws they were violating.

So yes, please make her job hell. By all means. The sooner you do, the sooner she will fix the problem.

“There will be no relationship with Betsy DeVos,” Eskelsen Garcia said.

And nobody will care because nobody likes the NEA.

She looks ready, willing and able to bite them right back.  This will be interesting, for sure.  And some of the other Secretaries, too, like Mnuchin or Tillerson.  They already hate the stuffing out of them.

But the Teacher's unions are powerful and own a good number of officeholders. Reeling in those unions would be a major accomplishment.

If she can take a big enough bite out of the unions it'll be a job well done, even if it doesn't finish the damn parasites off completely.

One way to address this problem is to make the Education Dept go away by DeVos dissolving the agency and her job position.

Let the NEA tackle the states individually, for what good that will do.

Good luck with that.  The Education Department was created by an act of Congress, the Department of Education Organization Act, and so cannot be summarily disbanded by a member of the executive branch.

Gee, I didn't know that.

Do you think we can somehow get Congress to do this after the recommendation is made by Executive?

Thanks for clarifying how this country operates.

I need to keep that insight in mind.
