Even if you don't like squirrels...at least try to put up with them for one day out of the year.

Red Squirrels as in this picture; are okay for the most part. Do you know why?

They stay up in the trees, they really do.

The problems are the grey squirrels, they are foragers by nature; that's why they are all over, invade bird feeders.  Seen frequently on the ground vs. the Reds. Greys can be a pest.

I know there are stories of squirrels even ruining houses, I don't know the particulars on cases such as that.

Yes, and Greys can be eaten, I've heard of chicken of the forest. Probably works. Squirrel-Fil-A.

I walk to work and carry bags of food for squirrels who live along the way.  Then I found that someone who works in my building feeds them on her smoking break every day.  Those guys are double-dippin'!

@TomSea

I owned a house near a lake but was not living in that one - was living in one a few miles away.  A friend had been in and out of that house a few times, then one time told me something had messed up the house, as though someone had been in it.  I went there and pictures were turned on the walls, small stuff was spread around, and found a dead squirrel in a bedroom.

Evidently, when this friend had been in the house, he left a door open and in came this squirrel and he got locked up in there.  He must have been bouncing around the walls, hence the pictures were moved.  Evidently, he died from no water, no food.  He didn't smell, so he must not have been dead in there very long.

In our neighborhood, supposedly, some squirrels marred up someone's garage real bad, the damage was extensive. I don't think anyone was in the house at the time.
