Couldn't actually find an article at the link.  Nothing but ads.    On my phone so maybe that's why.

How odd.  I looked at several of their boots on Amazon, and they had a different tread.  Would have had to retool the sole-making equipment in order to make swastikas.  I have no idea how hard that would be.

That's a common symbol in Asia.

That's a common symbol in Asia.

True.  But 99% of the folks on the planet see it for something else.

Perhaps 99% in the Western nations. And perhaps not with younger people. Seventy years is a long time.

The History of the Swastika http://history1900s.about.com/cs/swastika/a/swastikahistory.htm

The Oldest Known Symbol

The swastika is an ancient symbol that has been used for over 3,000 years. (That even predates the ancient Egyptian symbol, the Ankh!) Artifacts such as pottery and coins from ancient Troy show that the swastika was a commonly used symbol as far back as 1000 BCE.

The design on the tread doesn't look so much like a swastika but the print is pretty hard to miss. Its certainly plausible that its a mistake but its probably cheaper to recall the boots.
