Wow.  Way too young indeed! Definitely one of my teen idols. Very sad.  RIP!

That’s actually a really good pop song. Most of his songs, and the Partridge Family songs, were enjoyable.  I had a pretty sizable crush on him back in the day.  This makes me sad, not to mention nostalgic. RIP

I always thought "I Write the Songs" was written by Barry Manilow, but I just read that it was written by Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys.

Jim Nabors, the actor known for his role as Gomer Pyle in the “Andy Griffith Show,” has died, according to multiple reports. He was 87.

Steve Uyehara of Hawaii News Now confirmed Nabors’ death Thursday afternoon. WTHR’s Dave Calabro also confirmed the actor’s death.

Nabors, who recently lived in Hawaii, was born and raised in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was discovered by Andy Griffith while working at a nightclub in Santa Monica and appeared on “The Andy Griffith Show” from 1962 to 1964.

Nabors’ character of Gomer Pyle was a Marine from Mayberry, North Carolina stationed at Camp Henderson near Los Angeles in the 1960s.

'Gomer Pyle' Star Jim Nabors Dies at 87

im Nabors, who played Gomer Pyle on TV's "The Andy Griffith Show," has died at 87.

Nabors died peacefully at his home in Hawaii on Thursday with his husband, Stan Cadwallader, at his side. He was 87.

Cadwallader says Nabors' health had been declining for the past year. His immune system also was suppressed after he underwent a liver transplant about 20 years ago.

Rest In Peace! Thanks for the good times.

On those streets of Gold, I would not be surprised if you can hear someone shout, "citizen's arrest, citizen's arrest"

Never was a fan of his Marine character,  but those few years on the Andy Griffith show were priceless.

Surprising to know that Nabors had such a wonderful singing voice.  In fact, it amazes me that so many artists have talents in more than one field.

Rest in peace, Gomer Pyle.

His singing voice, IMO, was a far superior talent to his acting.

But maybe that's just me.  ^-^

Guys like Jim Nabors, George Lindsay, G.W. Bailey, Jerry Reed, and the Three Stooges were part of the lower brow subculture that those that grew up working poor and rural got many laughs off of, because their style was our style.

That culture is all but gone now, swallowed up by the suburbia social media culture monster.

Opie's dad had bit parts every now and then....

And Ron Howard, as a producer, used his Dad and brother in the movies he produced.

I don't know much about it, but it seems they were a close family.

Prayers for them.....

@Applewood

Believe it or not, Barney's girlfriend "Thelma Lou" (Betty Lynn) is still alive, at 91.

And so is Andy's first-season squeeze, Elinor "Ellie" Walker (Elinor Donahue), at 80.

Some of the minor characters and kids are still alive, too.

I had forgotten about Jack Burns.  Didn't know he once worked with George Carlin.  Growing up, I used to see Burns with another partner, Avery Schreiber.  Burns & Schreiber appeared on nearly every variety or talk show back in those days.

By the time he was supporting Barack Obama, nobody cared.

He was best known as the dad of  Dennis the Menace before he entered politics.

That I didn't know.

Your chain has been yanked.

Herbert Anderson played Dennis' father.  He was also one of several actors in Jack Webb's stable playing several different parts in Dragnet.

I was going to say something, but @Applewood got to it first.  ^-^
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

Sigh.  Pete, I'm a very literal person.  And, it's "daughter" not "son".    :silly:

Your chain has been yanked.

Herbert Anderson played Dennis' father.  He was also one of several actors in Jack Webb's stable playing several different parts in Dragnet.
Herb Anderson also played John Hammond, Sr. in that badly-bowdlerised film
The Benny Goodman Story which had Steve Allen (who actually did
look a little like Goodman) in the title role and Donna Reed as the Alice
Hammond who married Goodman. The bowdlerising only began with
the fact that, unlike in the film, Goodman didn't play "Memories of You"
at Carnegie Hall as a way to propose to her . . .
