By the way, while in Florida, a friend and I visited the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.  One of the best zoos in the US, IMHO. 

Also, if you are into the big cats, tour the Big Cat Rescue, also in Tampa.  As the name says, these big cats are rescues, usually from dopes who acquire them as pets and then can't or won't take care of them.

Thank you for the info on Big Cat Rescue.  Now I'm red faced.  Didn't know.  Well, at least I didn't give them a donation.  I was tempted to.

When I was there, the Rescue was encouraging people to contact Florida legislators to support a bill ending breeding and sale of exotic animals.  Since I'm not a Florida resident, I didn't become involved. 

For the record, the animals I saw at BCR ;looked healthy and well cared for.  So I don't know.  Interesting story about the founder's husband disappearing under mysterious circumstances.  I love a mystery.
