Hi @Cyber Liberty . How are things with you?

Going well.  Having the two weeks off work did a lot of good things for my disposition.  I've been working too hard, and carrying it home emotionally for too long.  This is one of my favorite threads because it's like a balm for my soul.  I'm loving the new puppy pictures...You?  Haven't seen enough of you around.

What a cutie BW...I am a sucker for puppies.

I wanted a pup for Christmas but with 3 already it would be too much.

Yes, you have to know your limitations.  I had 2 adult cats at one point and even they were too much.

Now my brother and his wife have 5 cats, including 3 kittens they acquired last year.  They've always had multiple cats, but for the last several years, all their cats were adults.  They hadn't had kittens for quite some time, so they aren't accustomed to 3 terrors running around the house and getting into everything.

One night  a few days before Christmas, I was talking to my brother on the phone.  The whole time he kept interrupting to yell at one or more of the kittens.  Brother and wife were putting up decorations, and you know kittens can't resist playing with the ornaments and what have you.  Finally, my brother said, "I've got to go now.  Tia (the female kitten) just knocked something over and I have to get the vacuum cleaner to sweep it up."  Just can't take your eyes off them for even a second.  Like children, they can be a handful.

I know what you mean about the time off work - particularly important if your job has a lot of stress involved.

I am well, and thanks for asking.

Can you believe this is my first? My parents briefly had a yellow lab when I was a kid, but my dad did basically everything wrong w.r.t. training it, and got the expected results, and then they gave it away. Even as a little kid it seemed like a blink of an eye before he was gone, so I am guessing we just had it for a month or so. Wanted one ever since then, but various life events intervened, so just getting one now. My wife has had dogs before, though.

Had a hard time getting pics of the new pup, as he wanted to be real close to me, and when not close, he was in motion. I'll get a better pic tomorrow, but here's the one that wasn't blurry.

@BassWrangler he's gorgeous! I think he's wonderful! Woof!

Thanks, @Freya

He had an umbilical hernia, corrected by the breeder's vet the day before we picked him up. Unfortunately, the I incision is infected. We are giving him antibiotics now, but we're also supposed to stop him from licking it. This has been a real challenge so far.

We put him in a small t-shirt (vet’s suggestion). Was supposed to just be at night, but we’ve been leaving it on during the day. Between that and watching him closely, it seems to be working. The shirt says “For Love of Balls”, which I find highly ironic given one of his incisions is from a neuter.

You are both such deers. @Sanguine  @Ghost Bear

There was a herd of those critters out and about in my farm boy days--around 300--in that bunch.

Yup, pronghorns.

And, interestingly, their closest living relative is actually the giraffe, not deer.  They aren't true antelopes.

In the Texas Hill Country we have herds of Axis deer and Blackbuck Antelope who have escaped from the hunting ranches. I've heard that Texas has a bigger population of these critters than India, their native habitat.

@Sanguine
The herd comes through every once in a while, sometimes right past the front porch but usually down on a ledge. I think they are visiting the water guzzler we have for the critters. Saw the herd this afternoon along with a big flock of about 30 wild turkeys.

Neat!
