Mysterious Medical Outbreak Hits California County

In the wealthy suburbs of Orange County, around 30 children and ten staff members at Lake Forest Elementary School have come down with mysterious itchy rashes, blisters and bites throughout the body. The cause? No one knows.

The unidentified outbreak has made its way throughout the elementary school, as parents and doctors are scrambling to find answers as to what caused this infection. Already though, five new cases in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District have recently been confirmed. Arms, feet, backs, chests, waistlines and even the face have all been susceptible to the outbreak.

Jared Dever of the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control has eliminated bed bugs, mosquitoes, flees, spiders, mites and mice as the possible catalysts to this unprecedented medical episode. “At this time, we have not been able to collect anything that would give us a clue as to what caused these bites,” Dever told news media.

I had thought maybe scabies (a mite), but going to the link and looking at the condition (pretty nasty looking) indicates something else. It will be interesting to see if there are other outbreaks, and what they find out about this one.

The schools should have alerted parents sooner, too, imho.

Interesting that they call it the wealthy suburbs of Orange County, yes there are some expensive homes, but there are a whole lot of low income residents too and a very large Hispanic population that includes many illegals. Of course this outbreak couldn't possibly be attributed to the third worlders and even if it was the officials would never let the public know because it would interfere with their agenda!

It's interesting to note, the USA was, for all practical purposes, free of communicable diseases (STDs don't count) until the failure to control the borders and the mass asylum entry of 3rd worlders.  Now not so much...so many "mystery" diseases, chagas and those that were essentially eradicated are now becoming more common.

Bugs and mites care little about economic status.  The nature of this fallen world is that once we find a cure for one thing, another thing pops up.  It's just the way things work.  This seems almost like a mite that causes an infection.  ??

Parasites are a possibility. Because the instances of third world parasites in this country are few, sketchy, and likely misdiagnosed, who knows what critter is causing the problem. If there has been a recent influx of people from elsewhere, maybe looking at the problems had there might shed some light on the problem.
