Alleged Burlington Shooter ID’d as Arcan Cetin, Immigrant from Turkey

Police have identified the alleged shooter in the Burlington mall attack as Arcan Cetin, 20, of Oak Harbor, Washington. Multiple reports indicate that Cetin was an immigrant from Turkey — not a citizen, but a legal permanent resident of the United States.

Cetin allegedly killed four women and one man at the Cascade Mall on Friday evening. Local NBC News affiliate KING-5 reports that he used three guns in the attack, all of which had been legally purchased by Cetin’s father, and which he stole.

Police arrested Cetin on Saturday evening as he walked down the street in Oak Harbor. He was reportedly unarmed at the time of his arrest. Law enforcement sources speculated that he may have acted from personal motives, given that his ex-girlfriend had once worked at the Macy’s store where the shooting took place. The investigation is still ongoing, however

The articles only say the police are speculating that it was domestic because his ex-girlfriend had once worked at Macy's, possibly in the same department. So she obviously wasn't there anymore or at the time of the shootings, and there didn't seem to be any Turkish or ME names among those of the dead that might have been connected with her. It's possible that she wasn't Turkish, of course, but just an American girl foolish enough to date a Muslim immigrant.

A 20-year-old man was taken into custody on Saturday night in connection with a shooting that killed five people on Friday at a mall north of Seattle, the authorities said.

The authorities, speaking at a news conference on Saturday night, identified the suspect as Arcan Cetin of Oak Harbor, Wash. He was taken into custody without incident around 6:30 p.m.

Officials said that they had received numerous tips about the gunman and that surveillance footage had helped locate him.

Lt. Michael Hawley of the Island County Sheriff’s Office said he had received a report that Mr. Cetin’s car was less than a mile from his office and when he headed that way, he found Mr. Cetin walking on the sidewalk. Mr. Cetin was carrying a satchel with a computer inside and was in a “zombielike” state when he was taken into custody, the lieutenant said.

Charges were pending, said the authorities, who said it was too early to say what led to the shootings.

On his Facebook page, Mr. Cetin listed his hometown as Adana, Turkey. Officials said he was a legal permanent resident of the United States. This is local news for me, so they break-in to our programming with breaking news way more often than necessary. No motive yet. No there was no ex-girlfriend there. One use to work in MACYS, but that was over a year ago, and she is now living in Pierce County.  There appears to be no connection with him and the victims.

It appeares he did not care if he was caught.That or he just didnt think this through.

He was arrested in the same clothes he was wearing at the mall, making it easy for the arresting officer to spot him.

He dropped the Riffle with his finger prints all over it.

He did not attempt to hide his face from mall cameras.

The serial number on the rifle, a Ruger 10/22 showed who it was purchased by. It was his dads rifle.

This is a US Navy base...If the young Turk was going to go on a jihadi rampage, this would have been the place to do it.  I suspect this guy, being raised muslim, just didn't have the coping skills/mechanisms in place to deal with rejection from a female.

So the early report that he killed his girlfriend was wrong? A random act of murder/terror.

Per social media, if these tweets and such are authentic, he appears to have had some radical ideas and even sent out a pro-Clinton message at one point.
