Anthropologist Jane Goodall has said that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's behavior reminds her of male chimpanzees' 'dominance rituals'.

Goodall spoke to The Atlantic, which said it had asked 'experts on intellectual and emotional persuasion how they explain Trump's success'.

She told the website: 'In many ways the performances of Donald Trump remind me of male chimpanzees and their dominance rituals.

In order to impress rivals, males seeking to rise in the dominance hierarchy perform spectacular displays: stamping, slapping the ground, dragging branches, throwing rocks.

'The more vigorous and imaginative the display, the faster the individual is likely to rise in the hierarchy, and the longer he is likely to maintain that position.'

Goodall revealed to The Atlantic that while watching the debates she'll be thinking about a chimpanzee known as 'Mike' who is described in one of her books.

Goodall's My Life with the Chimpanzees says that Mike kicked kerosene cans as a way of keeping dominance and scared his rivals, the website reported.

Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton are scheduled to face off in the first presidential debate September 26 at Hofstra University in Long Island, New York.

Trump appeals to the basic, most primitive aspects of humanity.  He operates from the lizard brain.  The gut.

Thus his appeal to about a third of the population.  That's where they live too.  They admire the beta  of the bunch, the one who can scream the loudest, shove his way past others, and dominate.

I'd say Goodall's got Trump pegged pretty good.

"Myst, it is not ridiculous - (borrowing "some" words from Johnny Cochran) - If the behavior fits, you must convict.

There ARE behaviors people do to bring attention to themselves, like the chimpanzees have their behaviors to do that, and Trump is the master to keep himself in the spotlight.  When he was building his company to be larger, he would call newspaper people, using an assumed name, to tell him/her some aggrandizing lie so they would report it and keep him in the news.

In my opinion, he tells more lies than truth, so one shouldn't believe anything he says.  He is not a "thinker", he is an immediate "responder", meaning he says anything that comes to mind to get him out of a situation.  When he says, "Many people say", or "Lots of people say", or "Some say", you know a lie is coming.  As long as he credits others with saying "x", he can deny it originally came from him.

What she says is remotely true but it is being applied selectively. She could say the same thing about any male leaders of any group. But no. This is a misleading and specifically targeted release. Hillary probably promised her funding. That is my guess.

But honestly, I have a hard time arguing against her statement on Trump. Trump does behave outrageously to get attention and it has worked for him. That's a big turnoff for me.
