OK I am an eBayer. Lots of people buy and sell that stuff on eBay. It is one of their biggest sellers. They are always begging members to sell their used ones, even guaranteeing a minimum price.
Phones and computers are two things I won't buy on eBay unless it is the actual manufacturer's store (Toshiba for example has their outlet store on eBay). It is one of the most common ways to get a device with malware or some sort of spyware on it. When the hacker actually has access to the device like that, and an outlet to distribute devices, the malware/spyware is even worse and far harder to detect.
