Arizona college adds fee to fund scholarship for undocumented immigrantsPrescott College will be one of only two schools in the country to add a student fee that will go toward a scholarship for undocumented students, college officials said this week.
The $30-per-student fee is expected to generate enough money to cover tuition and fees for one undocumented student at the small, private school, beginning this fall. Tuition and fees for undergraduates are $28,168 a year at the liberal-arts college.
Undocumented students aren't eligible to receive federal or state grants or scholarships.
"It's hard to get aid," said Miriel Manning, a graduate student who spearheaded the student-led effort. "This scholarship is just so necessary."
