We just started it tonight. So far it is really good. Like a cross between X Files and Goonies.

I enjoyed the hell out of it and I'm 70 the end of August.  Like a Stephen King novel in the Coen Bros. style.

Although I wasn't that impressed with Winona Ryder's character.  Some of the whining was insincere.

Amen to that. I'm an 80's kid too and one thing that sticks out for me is how we 80's kids were not 'color coordinated' like the fashionistas of today. Yellow striped shirts, ripped jeans (not done on purpose for style) and Velcro tennis shoes, that was us. And these kids had that 80's look to them in terms of wardrobe. I actually felt like a kid again watching it. Looking forward to a Season 2, hopefully.

She did ok but you're right she didn't knock it out of the park in most scenes. A little too frenetic, even for a poor working single mom of the time period that she was playing.

Now if she was trying to play someone who was already a little bit over the falls, then I'd say she did a pretty good job. But even then that wasn't the right fit for the show, she needs to project more strength than crazy IMO.

That one of the things I loved the most, you got no whiff of that modern day poseur crap. They portrayed the kids as smart, alert and engaged in the real world. They DID stuff, not just live in social or virtual imaginary land all day, driven and a desire to accomplish and not just trying to be stylish and cool.

Wow. That looks like it might be right up my alley (I was a huge X-Files fan). Thanks for the heads up.

On another note, DC, I am just catching up with old threads here since I was on vacation, during which time I was limited to posting on my iPad, which isn't easy without a real keyboard, at least if you're me. I saw that you had a health scare, and I'm glad you seem to be doing better. What you described has happened to me as well, and stress was the reason.

I understand that you can get the login and password from a friend's account and watch it on your monitor....or run it on your TV thru an Xbox, etc..

Did you recognize the Chief as the 'bad' cop in The Equalizer?   He was 'Frank', who got handcuffed to the running car in the garage, etc..

Every kid's character was endearing.

My 'favorite' kept changing...with every episode.  'Lucas', the black kid was great in his part.  'Dustin' stole my heart when Nancy slammed the bedroom door in his face.  LOL!

It was a fun thing to watch over a few days.   4 out of 5 for me!

I know what you mean. It's a bizarre and often utterly subconscious thing. My own struggle with stress has manifested itself not only at unpredictable times but with unexpected symptoms - a full-body rash, for example. I had every test you can imagine, and they could find nothing wrong. It all added up to what was going on between the ears, which in turn led me to consult with a "specialist" who I've been seeing every three weeks for a couple of years now. I was embarrassed about that at first (especially since I have prided myself on being something of a tough old SOB) but the treatment has helped me to better manage my thoughts and emotional responses. I still get stressed out (largely owning to my job) but I handle it differently, now. Your mileage may vary, as they say, but it's a far more common issue in today's world than you might think, which you will quickly discover if you choose to confide in someone about it.

Another thing I have found to be helpful is watching scary movies or series like The Walking Dead or Stranger Things, from the looks of it. I'm going to see a really scary movie today, in fact. It's called Hillary Clinton's America.  :smokin:

It's very good, but I thought it was more like Super 8, similar times, group of buddies getting around on bikes, corrupt government facility, monster, nascent attraction between one of the boys and the outsider girl.
