A number of major U.S. companies are pulling their sponsorships for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July.
Bloomberg Politics reports that the following companies have recently signaled that they won't participate in the convention: Wells Fargo & Co., Motorola Solutions, Inc., JPMorgan Chase Co., Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., Ford Motor Co., and United Parcel Service Inc. According to the report, all of those companies sponsored the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.
None of the companies were willing to comment publicly about why they were backing out, Bloomberg reported, and none made clear whether the decision was related to the party's presumptive nominee, Donald Trump.
A spokesman for Walgreens disputed the accuracy of the Bloomberg report, telling CBS News that the company will be sponsoring events at both the Republican and Democratic conventions.
Bloomberg reports that The American Petroleum Institute is among some of the other big groups participating at the convention. The report said that companies like Google, Facebook Inc. and Twitter have said they plan to provide technical support at the convention for free.
Meanwhile, a number of top Republicans have opted to not attend the convention, which is scheduled to take place between July 18 and 21.
Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, has decided to skip the convention as well as Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, who faces a tough reelection race. Former Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush may not attend either since both have decided not to endorse Trump for president.
Clarification: A spokesperson for Wells Fargo told CBS News that they are not one of the companies pulling their sponsorship or backing out of the convention. The spokesperson says that Wells Fargo never intended to sponsor the convention.
