I noticed the subtle departure from same race couples in commercials years ago, at first a few, now the overwhelming norm. My late wife was Chippewa, so it isn't a question of objecting to that so much as noting that what I was seeing in the ad stream was way out of proportion to real life demographics.
But for the people who are paying attention, it is the world put forth in media that drives people's notions of what is normal. The distortions in that matrix distort reality until, at least for some, the distortions become the new reality.
The more unusual and deviant behaviour is presented as the norm, the more normal it will become. Commercials and sitcoms are the usual place to start, and the movies from there. (you know, where the 95 lb. heroin chic heroine is mopping up the evil guys with 18 inch necks...with her bare hands, of course.)
And yeah, it would be nice to see a white guy characterized as an intelligent and loving protector/provider/teacher/mentor/husband/father without projecting some sick twist onto that.
