It is difficult because something changed in our society.
We have gone from "sharing means caring" to almost compulsive self disclosure as a societal norm, propelled by My Space, Facebook, Twitter, tiktoc, and an plethora of other media, but even before that, by group techniques used along with invasive topics in the classroom, designed to make outcast those who would not answer questions about things when the appropriate reply would have been "none of your business' done at an age when social pressures were most effective.
I have taught every child, grand child, and great grandchild who is old enough to understand:
How many people does it take to keep a secret?
One. After that, it isn't a secret any more.
