This is very, very, very, common. Transgenders have remorse all the time. But of course they would. To be transgender is to be abnormal by definition. To be abnormal includes being unbalanced. Unbalanced means of unstable disposition or mind. Ergo, for a transgender to be fanatically in favor of an idea this year, and then radically opposed to it the next, is not unexpected or uncommon.

In most of the world outside of America people with gender dysphoria are considered mentally ill. To humor them is a form of cruelty, and is not considered to be 'understanding' or 'enlightened'.

Except in rare instances, gifted students have never been the focus of the system. While some individual teachers revel in the challenges a gifted student poses, others would rather have their students just move in lockstep. Since the system has become more sensitive about not offending those who cannot/will not achieve, the gifred have really been getting the shaft.

A lot depends on the school district one is in.  My child's school district does a pretty good job of providing opportunities for advanced/accelerated students.  Of course, it isn't a sub-par urban school district, either.
