Kasich moves into the lead in Ohio per new Fox poll
posted at 8:01 am on March 10, 2016 by Jazz Shaw

From the beginning we’ve known that Ohio Governor John Kasich’s primary strategy was crazy. Crazy like a fox?

After all the sturm und drang following Super Tuesday we’ve been focusing on the twin, winner take all states of Florida and Ohio next week. The shattered remains of the “conventional wisdom” in this most unconventional season holds that if Donald Trump can take both of those states we’ve reached the end of the shooting match. Such an outcome would finally seal the fate of both Marco Rubio and John Kasich, leaving Trump with a significant and perhaps insurmountable lead over Ted Cruz. But as of last night a new Fox Poll shows that you should probably refill your popcorn bag because the Ohio governor has surged into a lead barely outside the margins on his home turf.

What is striking about all the recent polls is that support is draining away from Trump.   There's a poll from Florida today that Rubio is down 11, an improvement of 9 over polls earlier in the week.

Trump is not picking up support anywhere, just losing it. Thus his "Islam hates America" remark last night.  Gotta fire up those bubbas.

Unfortunately this will only benefit Trump.

A win in Ohio will encourage him to stay in the race, split Ted and (to a much lesser extent) Marco's vote share, meaning Trump will have it easier to take the WTA states.

A Kasich win in Ohio, and a Marco win in Florida will only benefit the Donald in the long run.

Only thing keeping Donald from a nomination might be Rule 40.

Have to look at the source but the UNIPARTY members cannot and will not do this, especially on here.

This should make the Trump team squirm. Trump was polled as walking away from this, and not only has he lost states, he's won many by a far less margin than predicted.

If Kasich is ahead, he could be WAY ahead.

What the Trumpers don't want to hear is that if Trump loses OH, it becomes very very hard for him to win the nomination outright. As it is now, he needs to get all the WTA states and 64% of the total remaining delegates to get over the hump.
The Republic is lost.

Apply the same logic to Cruz. Rather then just scream your hate at all things Trump, Stop and actually think here.

How much harder is Cruz' path? Kaisch? Rubio?

The only way forward for any of them, Trump included, is a contested convention.

What I just heard is that Trump has to get all WTA and over 60% of remaining delegates. It will not happen.

Ok so the goal is to stop Trump. And then magically at the Convention all the Trump Delegates are going to magically suddenly vote for who YOU want.

Sorry the delegates have to go home and live with the voters. They have their own state and local poltical careers to consider. They not going to cut their poltical throats just because a bunch of screaming heads in DC Lobby firms want them to.

Delegates that are pledged to a particular candidate are required to vote for that candidate on the first vote regardless of how they feel about him.  If the convention is contested some of them may very well leave Trump. That being said, some pledged to the other candidates may decide to go to Trump after the first vote.

If Trump supporters are low information I doubt it will hurt them to vote for Trump. Not like Trump has gotten anywhere near a majority or anything.

Might even help them.

No other campaign is saying anything otherwise. Only the Trump dick dominance parade is saying they are going to completely smash their opposition.

Calm down, breath deep and think about what I said for a change.

Why do you assume the Trump delegates are going to go to Cleveland and vote to give the nomination to someone else? What makes you think that is not a two way street where people will decide that the right thing to do is nominate the candidate with the most delegates and desert Cruz/Kaisch/Rubio/Carson for Trump?

I'm not the one who thinks Democracy should stop working because a candidate loses a Primary election.

Not good to assume but I think the delegates will be savvy enough to know what a disaster for the party a Trump nomination would be.

Thank you for proving my point about the  irrationality and overtly emotional nature of the Hate Trump Always squad

You just said that it was going to stop Trump. I pointed out it would not, NOW you are screaming insults because your emotional opinion was pointed out to be foolish.

I doubt your emotion based options are going to what  decides the thinking of Convention Delegates.

Never been impressed by people who think stridency and emotionalism are valid substitutes for thought.

Can any of you make a RATIONAL case?

All the pivoting narrative in the world isn't going to change the math. If Kasich wins OH, Trump is going to have a very very hard time getting the nomination outright.

To scream and spittle about the emotionalism of the math is irrational bat crazy land. All the confidence or overconfidence in the world isn't going to change the math, nor is it going to erase the butthurt if it comes to pass.

Trump has to win ALL the WTA states from here and get 64% of the delegates from here. He has not done that so far, yet Trump supporters think the magic unicorn will still appear if they sell it with enough Trumpian dick swagger.
The Republic is lost.

Seems the only one getting emotional is you.

I've stated my main case: Trump cannot win in the general. There are plenty of rational reasons why that is so.

THanks for the link Longiron.  I view most polls with suspicion  - the only poll that really counts is the election poll.  I hope this one is wrong - and it does appear to be biased.
