He's not a "pretender".  Just as he's tapped into the Conservative base for supporters, he's tapped into moderates, independents and registered Democrats.

He's the ONLY viable candidate that can claim that.  Police unions across the country say "He always been there for us.  Trump's our guy!"

They say JFK used the 'eff' word in virtually every conversation he had...on the phone or in person.  Didn't matter.  So did Lyndon B. Johnson.

Trump used it...whispered "eff"...IOW, didn't say it...to convey the anger we should all have against companies that fled to places like Mexico.

The 'fine print' of his speech indicates that he's going to penalize/tax the hell out of Mexican-based companies that need/want to sell their products in the USA.  That would automatically make it cheaper to make their product here.  Workers...here!

Exactly, DC. With Donald Trump, what you see is what you get.

But, there are plenty of constituents out there who like pretender politicians, who prefer pols who whisper sweet nothings in their ear, after first poll testing the message and running it past a focus group before their acting coach and stylist make them over to appear like an Iowa duck hunter.

Or, you could support a candidate who is himself--Donald Trump.

I have no problem with a candidate who is himself. In fact, I prefer a guy who is what you see, no pretense, no phoniness. Now if only that candidate were a conservative with some class.

I think I see what the problem is.  "Rigid" is a pejorative that I wouldn't use to describe fundamental, integral principles.  Nor are they dependent on who is examining them.  They just are.

If I don't share the same "values" you do, then your values mean nothing to me.
The objective is for the "candidate" to convince as many people as possible that they are the right guy/gal for the job, right?
So if I promise you free lollipops but you don't like lollipops, then I don't get your vote....
If I tell you that I am going to abolish abortion because it is in violation of gods law, that only works if you believe in god.

If the GOP is going to win this, the candidate is going to have to understand how to communicate with more people than the democrats....

I can see how you're getting tangled up in this.  There are general groups of values, such as "Christian values" or "islamic values".  I don't agree 100% with anyone in the micro, but can in the macro.

Someone who can elucidate their Christian values and who has a history of following them, even in difficult situations is someone with integrity.  As is someone who does the same with their islamic values.  Someone who ascribes to islamic values, while I may admit they have integrity, is not someone I want to vote for, leave my children with, or have care for my dog.

So, sharing value systems isn't that complicated or difficult, but integrity and the fact that you have a "good" value system is what is important.

I thought I was going to open this up and see Trump telling the GOP to go and F themselves.

Instead, he is telling the globalist elitists to F themselves in the process of the USA/Americans getting their (stolen) jobs and industries back.

Come to think about it, he WAS telling the GOP to go and F themselves.

The difficulty with rigid principles is that they are useless unless your opponent understands them.
If you are expecting Rubio/Cruz to do battle with the left with their ivy league, bible beating approach to problem solving, then you will lose.
The second the argument against abortion becomes the bible, you lose.
The second the argument against farm subsidies or other freebies becomes a tangled web of economic double talk, you lose.

You know, the minute you inserted the inapt word "RIGID" in your first statement you lost the argument.

You can't just make things up and expect me to reply to your imagined argument.

When you're running for President as a Republican, and you're a Democrat, you're a "pretender."

When you say one day you're for government run health care one day and against it the next, you're worse than a "pretender," you're a liar.

And when you support the Dream Act and then get people to support you because you suddenly are tough on immigration, you're a charlatan.

Trump is all three of those things.

ML, you have to fight the fight you are in, not the one you want to be in.
That is why the GOP has lost the last 2 presidential elections.

So we have to use gutter language to beat the Democrats?

I'm lovin' Trump melting down before our eyes.  His yuuuge NH lead is down to 13 points and will shrink further still.

The silent 70% of the GOP that will NEVER vote for Trump are expressing themselves.

Beautifully.

Trump can't penalize or tax anybody without the consent of Congress.  And this Republican Congress will not give him that consent.

Yeah, let's start a trade war with our trading partners.  That's a two way street, my friend.  That's the way global trade works.

When was the last time 70% of the GOP went on to win a national election all by themselves?

First things first. Trump has to sell himself to the GOP, and the air is leaking out of that balloon.

No one ever accused the GOP of being smart enough to win an election.

I believe he caught himself in time, Sink.

Rush spoke about this today on his show.  He said that yesterday, for the first time, he publicly cried out for the nonsense to stop.  This cannibalizing of our top candidates, ostracizing them out of the party, etc., "HAS GOT TO STOP!"

He decried how quickly we were to question good Conservatives like Rubio and Cruz...

Suddenly last night, Andersen Cooper couldn't get squat out of the Donald Trump regarding Cruz 'stealing' Iowa.  Trump said "I've moved on.  I'm concentrating on New Hampshire".

That this manner of speaking/behavior in a US Presidential candidate resonates with so many says a lot about us. Angry?  I get it. I am too. But that has no appeal to me whatsoever.

The American voters will demand Congress give President Trump what he's promised and what was voted for by the majority of the American people. Congress will come along.

No worries, problem solved.  Easy peasy.

But it didn't offend me one bit, either.   He was connecting with THAT audience.

Well stated. Republicans/conservatives waste most of their time, internally debating how many "true conservatives" can fit on the head of a pin.

Democrats/liberals/progressives/socialists tell people what they will get, for their support.

Republicans need to talk in terms people understand.

"You will have MORE PERSONELL FREEDOM, from limited government."

Like an alcoholic that has to increase the amount consumed, or change to hard liquor from beer to get the same buzz, Trump has to bump up his outrageousness to get the same reaction from his red-meat audiences.

Now he's into the "f" word after his "Cruz stole the election" foolishness fell on its face.

Trump is not the same. He lost Iowa, and he never loses.

Rubio is getting all the oxygen from the media now.  He'll have a great debate (he always does), and we'll see just how vicious Bush and Christie get towards him.

Can you imagine fat boy Christie trashing Rubio's youthful appearance?

The American voters will not demand tariffs (which are just tax increases).  And Congress will not do it.

But it's appearing increasingly less likely that Paul Ryan will have to say "no" to Trump.  What makes you think a man with an unfavorable rating at 70% can win the presidency?
