Although Noel Neill played Lois Lane in the movie serials with Kirk Alyn (sp?), Phyllis Coates played her for the first season of "Adventures of Superman."

I'm so sorry to hear this.  We lost Jimmy Olsen last year, now this!

I meant "live action", not sure why it became TV somewhere between the brain and fingers

Adventures of Superman main cast:

Superman / Clark Kent - George Reeves (January 5, 1914 - June 16, 1959)

Lois Lane - Season 1 - Phyllis Coates (January 15, 1927 - ), Seasons 2-6 - Noel Neill (November 25, 1920 - July 3, 2016)

Jimmy Olsen - Jack Larson (February 8, 1928 - September 20, 2015)

Perry White - John Hamilton (January 16, 1887 - October 15, 1958)

Inspector Henderson - Robert Shayne (October 4, 1900 - November 29, 1992)

Noel Neill played Lois Lane in a film serial of Superman prior to the television series. (Kirk Allyn played Superman/Clark Kent.)
It was probably that serial that got the television people to cast her in the role when Phyllis Coates outsmarted herself out of the role
of a lifetime. (At a point where nobody knew whether the TV series would be renewed, Coates signed onto another TV show and
couldn't return to Superman when it was renewed.) I probably should have described Neill as "the first large and second
small screen Lois Lane" . . .

Producer/director Garry Marshall dies at 81

Beginning his career writing for comedians such as Jack Paar and Joey Bishop, Marshall (the anglicized form of Masciarelli, the family's original Italian surname) had his first major hit in 1968 when he adapted Neil Simon's The Odd Couple into a television series. He then followed with Happy Days, which in turn spun off Mork & Mindy and Laverne & Shirley (the latter of which was a vehicle for his sister, Penny); all of those shows ended up being major hits and running for many years in reruns.

Marshall turned to film in 1982; among the hits he directed were Pretty Woman (the breakthrough role for Julia Roberts), Nothing in Common (the final film of Jackie Gleason's career), The Princess Diaries and its sequel, and most recently, his line of holiday-themed ensemble comedies: Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve and Mother's Day.

Marshall died of pneumonia and complications from a stroke.

Former college and pro football coach Denny Green dies at 67

Dennis Green was one of many assistants who served under the coaching tree of Bill Walsh; Green started his own head coaching career at Northwestern unimpressively, averaging only two games a year at the struggling college, but would get a second chance at Stanford a few years later. In 1992, Green was hired as coach of the Minnesota Vikings; he was one of only two NFL head coaches between 1926 and 2000 (the other being Art Shell) to be black.

Green coached the Vikings for ten seasons, with a .500 or better record in all but his last season there; his high point as coach was in 1998, when the Vikings went 15–1 in the regular season. However, despite strong regular season success, Green never made it to the Super Bowl and lost both of his NFC Championship Game appearances.

After two years out of football, Green was hired to coach the Arizona Cardinals, where he was unable to replicate the success he had in Minnesota; all three seasons there had the Cardinals tallying double-digit losses; after one particular loss, Green uttered the memorable outburst "they are who we thought they were!" His last stint in coaching was in the United Football League, where he led the Sacramento Mountain Lions to three middling seasons before quitting and suing the league for unpaid salary;  despite winning the lawsuit, Green was believed to have not been paid at the time of his death.

Green died from a heart attack. It was implied that Green may have been in poor health at the time of his death, as his family was by his side at the time of his passing.

TV psychic "Miss Cleo" dies at 53

Youree Harris, born in Los Angeles and raised in Seattle, became known in the late 1990s as Miss Cleo, a purportedly Jamaican psychic who worked for the Psychic Readers Network. Although she used a number of aliases in her career as an actress and psychic (a characteristic possibly derived from her early acting years in which she strung together a battery of failed projects), it was Cleo that became the best-known, particularly because of her late-night infomercials. The Cleo character was retired in 2003, although she continued to work as a psychic until shortly before her death (her last known alias was The Seer).

Harris died of colon cancer.

Tim LaHaye, author of ‘Left Behind’ end times novels, dies

The author of the best-selling “Left Behind” novels about the return of Jesus and the rapture has died.

A publicist for the Rev. Tim LaHaye says the novelist died Monday in San Diego, California, days after suffering a stroke. He was 90 years old.

LaHaye and his partner Jerry B. Jenkins wrote 16 volumes in the “Left Behind” series, which sold more than 80 million copies worldwide, bringing Christian prophecy and the apocalypse into mainstream bookstores.

LaHaye was a Baptist minister who started an Atlanta-area church and several Christian schools, and wrote dozens of non-fiction and advice books. He was active in conservative political groups and instrumental in the creation of the Moral Majority.

No funeral plans were announced. He is survived by his wife Beverly and four children.

Well... that really sucks. Another one gone.  **nononono*

Interesting bit of Jerry Doyle/Bablyon 5 trivia: While filming the episode "Severed Dreams" (Season 3 Episode 10) Mr. Doyle broke his wrist/forearm during one of the fight scenes. If you watch the episode near the 38 minute mark, you see Zack (Jeff Conaway) helping Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle) ease down into a sitting position against one of the walls after the fighting is done. As he does, a helmet slides out from under Garibaldi's right arm and falls to the floor. Watch closely and note the loose/floppy quality of that arm as the helmet falls: yes, that was the arm he broke, and yes, he insisted on finishing the filming before getting his broken arm set in a cast.  Talk about method acting...!

Gloria DeHaven, Effervescent Star of MGM Musicals, Dies at 91

Quote
She wandered into Charlie Chaplin’s 'Modern Times' and later appeared in 'Best Foot Forward,' 'Three Little Words,' 'Two Girls and a Sailor' and 'Out to Sea.'

Singer-actress Gloria DeHaven, the perky star of MGM musicals in the 1940s and a stalwart of show business for more than six decades, has died. She was 91.

DeHaven, who made her screen debut in Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times (1936) as Paulette Goddard's kid sister — her father served as an assistant director on the film — died Saturday while in hospice care in Las Vegas, her daughter, Faith Fincher-Finkelstein, told The Hollywood Reporter. DeHaven suffered a stroke about three months ago, she said.

Oh, how sad!  Marni Nixon's voice was amazing!  I always got irritated that the very untalented (musically) Audrey Hepburn got credit for Marni's lovely singing, "I Could Have Danced All Night"

It was good that she finally got credit for all the singing she did.  I admire her greatly.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

When I was in high school but at the other high school, I vaguely knew the family, the son killed the parents. You really wonder about those kinds of cases.  Shocking.

Seriously. All families I'm sure have some friction in them but this really is shocking.

I see this happened with a former Texas A & M Aggie, former NFL and CFL football player, Antonio Armstrong.  This happened Friday if no one posted it.  Looks like an upstanding individual and the same for his wife.

I read that Armstrong was a pastor, and that he and his wife were really good people. How sad when a child you've loved and nurtured turns on you and commits such a heinous act.

Former Miss North Dakota died of heart condition

MINNEAPOLIS -- A former University of North Dakota student who was crowned Miss North Dakota USA in 2003 died of an undetected heart condition, a coroner said Thursday.

Samantha Edwards, 37, who was found dead June 15 at her home in Minneapolis, died of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, a genetic disease that affects the heart muscle, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office said in a news release. Officials concluded the investigation Thursday, attributing her death to natural causes.

Edwards was born in Minot and grew up in Hatton, where she graduated from high school in 1997 before becoming a student at UND. She later attended the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis, after which she pursued a career in cosmetic artistry for the past 14 years, according to her obituary.

Jazz clarinet great Pete Fountain dies at 86

A contemporary and friendly rival with Al Hirt, Fountain first rose to fame in the 1950s when he was selected as a charter member of Lawrence Welk's orchestra. A highly respected clarinetist (in an era when Welk's orchestra was still seen as mediocre), Fountain amicably left the Welk show in 1958, disagreeing with Welk over his rendition of the Christmas song "Silver Bells."

From there, Fountain signed with Decca Records, recording a string of commercially successful albums, and established a permanent base in New Orleans, where he fronted his own band and stayed in the national limelight with a series of over 50 appearances on The Tonight Show during Johnny Carson's time as host. A New Orleans legend, he appeared annually in the city's Mardi Gras celebrations as leader of the "Half-Assed Walking Club," in which he and his fellow musicians would get drunk and play music.

No cause of death was stated.

Character actor Fyvush Finkel dead at 93

12:04 p.m. EDT August 15, 2016

NEW YORK — Fyvush Finkel, the plastic-faced character actor whose career in stage and screen started in Yiddish theater and led to memorable roles in Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway and on TV in Boston Public and Picket Fences, has died, his son said Monday. He was 93.

Finkel, who was known for his mischievous smile and an ability to prop his ears at an angle for optimum comic effect, died early Sunday in Manhattan, said his son, Ian. He said his father had suffered heart problems for months.

He was a comedian, singer, stage actor, film actor and a familiar TV performer, from Fantasy Island to Blue Bloods to Picket Fences, for which he was nominated for an Emmy twice and won once, in 1994, according to his IMDb page. He celebrated his 80th birthday on the set of Boston Public, playing history teacher Harvey Lipschultz.

Man, his "Elliot" character on The Bob Newhart Show was so annoying... hard to realize that was 40 years ago.  **nononono*

Lou Pearlman, con artist behind the 1990s boy band boom, dies at 62

Pearlman's Trans Continental conglomerate was originally in the aircraft business (which he propped up by questionable stock dealings) before, inspired by the success of the New Kids on the Block in the early 1990s, he set his sights on the music industry. Pearlman's first creation, the Backstreet Boys, was a huge success, which Pearlman followed with NSYNC, O-Town and LFO, among several others, as well as Innosense, the girl group best known for introducing Britney Spears to the general public. Most of the bands under Pearlman's tutelage eventually sued him.

His purchase of a talent scout company managed by Ayman el Difrawi would prove to be the beginning of his downfall, as the business model Pearlman embraced was widely accused of being a scam. In his last active years, Pearlman ostensibly relaunched his aircraft business and started recruiting investors—the problem was, the aircraft business this time was a fake paper business, and Pearlman was running a Ponzi scheme. He was convicted of fraud and sentenced to a 25-year jail sentence. He died in jail.

I actually found him more believable as a spy in Mission: Impossible, than Peter Graves, who replaced him after the first season.  Still, he had a good long career... including 229 episodes on Law and Order.
