Ray Romano paid an emotional tribute to his Everybody Loves Raymond co-star Sawyer Sweeten after the 19-year-old shot himself in the head on his family's front porch in Texas yesterday.

The US actor and comedian, 57, who worked with Sawyer for nine years starting from when he was just a 16-month-old baby, said he was 'shocked, and terribly saddened, by the news'.

He added: 'He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family, and his friends during this very difficult time.'
