Michigan Course Teaches Capitalism “Must Be Overthrown”

By Robert Gehl, February 19, 2015.

If you’ve ever wondered exactly how kids enter college perfectly normal and well adjusted only to emerge four years later the intellectual cannon-fodder for the left, look no further than this class:

At the University of Michigan, the class is called “Organizational Studies 203: Activism.” Officially, the class claims no political bias, that “activism” is an important tool for both the right and left. “Neither this course, nor its instructional staff, embraces or rejects any ideology, movement, or political project. We will not preach social change from any particular point of view,” the class description states.

That is a lie.

The College Fix is reporting the class has two textbooks. The first, “Beautiful Trouble: A Toolbox for Revolution,” not only describes capitalism as a “a profit-driven economic system rooted in inequality, exploitation, dispossession and environmental destruction,” but advocates for its destruction.

“It “is the predictable manifestation of a crisis-prone economic system rooted in production for profit rather than for human need. … [F]or the sake of human development and ecological sanity it needs to be overthrown.”

It discusses various leftist theories and movements and never touches on the evils of leftist movements like socialism, communism, militant environmentalism and organizations like the Animal Liberation Front.

The book and its’ online resources are co-sponsored by radical leftist organizations like Code Pink.

Their other textbook, “Organizing for Social Change,” is also a leftist manifesto for radical “social change.” From their description:

“Here is the comprehensive manual for grassroots organizers working for social, racial, environmental and economic justice at the local, state and national levels.”

To top it off, after reading this propaganda, students are required to complete an “activism project” by the end of the term.

No pretense at objectivity, no attempts to explain that “activism” works across the political spectrum. No dissection of the failures of leftist ideologies.

It’s no surprise that Professor Michael Heaney had no comment when approached with questions about the course and its textbooks.
