President Promises To Close Gitmo, Military Leaders Do Not Applaud

By Brian Carey, January 21, 2015.

Silence does not imply consent.

Last night, during his State of the Union speech, President Obama once again promised to close Gitmo. He’s been doing that since 2009.

And Gitmo is still open.

Obama described Gitmo as a recruiting tool for Muslim radicals. That’s a claim that we think is absolute hogwash, most notably because terrorists were successfully recruiting suicide bombers and 9/11 hijackers long before Gitmo was in existence. We’re fairly certain that, if the President ever does get around to closing Gitmo, terrorists will still successfully recruit fellow Muslims to attack the West.

And we seriously doubt that there’s any credible polling data showing that some radical Muslims are willing to blow themselves up to attack “infidels” only because they heard about a prison in Cuba.

It should also be noted that when the President promised to close Gitmo, none of the military leaders stood up to applaud. We don’t know if they were following a specific protocol, or if that was a statement against the idea of closing the prison.

Have a look at the video below.
