There is one thing, more than any other, that I believe would serve to change America's fortunes at this twilight moment: the emergence of a leader.
Not a ruler or God forbid, a putative dictator, but instead a leader of free men.
A person who might speak clearly, calmly and with conviction about the causes of our civilizational decline, and of the possibility of renewal.
A person who might rally not only those already predisposed to follow, but more importantly to inspire those who do not know, those who have forgotten and those who have abandoned the virtues that once made our country the envy of the world.
A person of courage. Of decency. Of kindness. Of compassion. Of wisdom.
America at this hour requires a person of honor, a statesman, and a calm voice for reason.
Our depraved culture and our poisonous politics have now for many years both stained our legacy and militated against the emergence or success of such people.
What decent man or woman would voluntarily subject themselves and their family to the predations of Progressive power-mongers, armed with vast Treasuries with which to fund slander and calumny, and armies of paid Tribunes to attack and destroy those who might challenge their benefactors?
The friends of freedom, the lovers of liberty are at this hour abandoned by their party and starved for inspiration.
Great men once pledged their "lives, fortunes, and sacred honor" to bring forth a nation historically, uniquely committed not to conquest, but to freedom. Not to the promotion of government power, but to that of enlightened self-governance.
Who, today will dare step forward?
