Despite the fact she has yet to announce her intention to run, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is an increasingly intriguing alternative to Hillary Clinton among Democrats looking ahead to the 2016 presidential election. The outspoken Democrat is likely to attract even more support from those disillusioned with the party after making some harsh critiques of the current administration’s economic program.
Salon spoke to Warren for an article published last weekend; and in regard to the fiscal situation working Americans are currently facing, she placed the lion’s share of blame squarely at the president’s feet.
Barack Obama was responsible for selecting a specific economic team, she explained; and “when the going got tough, his economic team picked Wall Street.”
Warren lamented that the response of these experts has caused America’s middle class to suffer needlessly.
“They protected Wall Street,” she said. “Not families who were losing their homes. Not people who lost their jobs. Not young people who were struggling to get an education. And it happened over and over and over.”
As Obama’s second term drags on, Warren is just the latest in a long line of Democrats anxious to distance themselves from his disastrous policies. Time will tell whether her latest excoriation will help her already soaring popularity among many influential donors in her party.
