by ROBERT WILDE  9 Oct 2014

On Thursday, Oscar winning Actress Gwyneth Paltrow concluded her introductory remarks about President Obama at a star studded fundraiser held in the backyard of her upscale Brentwood home in Los Angeles, saying that she was turning the microphone over to him because “you’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.”

Paltrow’s adoration of the President was palpable, according to a press pool report. She told Obama that “I am one of your biggest fans, if not the biggest… It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass” she said.

Democratic National Committee officials affirmed that there were 200 supporters at the reception and 50 supporters attending the dinner. Tickets for the reception started at $1,000, dinner started at $15,000. Julia Roberts, Bradley Whitford, and Paltrow’s two children, Apple and Moses, were present at the event.

Paltrow cited that sustainable energy efforts, as well as Obama’s push for equal pay, were very important to her as a working mother.
Obama gave much of his standard fundraiser speech – “tumult” overseas that includes ISIS, Russia, and Ebola, about which he said, “I want to assure everybody that the likelihood of an epidemic here in the United States is extraordinarily small, but there’s a humanitarian crisis that’s happening right now in West Africa where children not much older, and in some cases younger than, Apple and Moses are dying on the streets alone.”

Obama boasted of 55 months of uninterrupted job growth, investments in energy, the success of Obamacare – “and yet people remain anxious.”

The President asserted that, “Most of the gains in our economy go to the folks who are in this lovely yard—and the average person has not seen their wages or incomes go up in the last 20 years.”

He said that  Democrats have a “congenital disease: A, we get depressed too easily, and B, we’re terrible at paying attention to midterm elections.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a Hollywood tone deaf actress. She referred to herself as a 'working mother' in hosting a fundraiser in Hollywood last night for President Obama and the Democratic Party. She said equal pay is "very important to me as a working mother." I guess literally she is correct (she is a mother and does movies) but she does not get it. She is tone deaf! I do not define 'working mother' as a woman with nannies and who makes millions of dollars each year. That just is not a 'working mother to me.' I appreciate that she wants women to have equal pay for equal work -- I agree with that of course -- but a woman with nannies and millions of dollars just is not a 'working mother' to me. It would have been wiser for her to simply say "I know many women struggle juggling work and responsibilities as mothers...we should make sure those women get equal pay as men for the same jobs."

I know why her daughter is named "Apple", because her mother has the IQ of one.
She named her blog "Goop," which apparently is what is found in her cranium.

It always amazes me that people who pretend to be something they are not for a living (Hollywood and Washington) think everyone else should listen to their opinions.

And plenty of LIVs believe they should listen to people who pretend to be something they are not.

Less stupid sounding, but not necessarily wiser.  There are already a number of laws on the books prohibiting pay discrimination.

In fact, reputable studies have found that if you account for specific jobs and differences in how long young women can work before pregnancy sidelines them, pay between men and women is roughly equal and commensurate with an applicants salary history.

Indeed, but don't let Obama in on it.  It's a completely made up issue based only on averages across the nation, which as you say are generally explained by differences in choices.  But any pay discrimination suit can be filed either with EEOC or the federal courts.  If filed with the EEOC, the difference in pay automatically makes it a prima facie case, and the employer must explain why.
