NFL Baltimore Ravens' Ray Rice knocks out his wife - video from inside the elevator.  The NFL claims they had not seen this video previously. Tough to watch.

And then there are all those clowns around, chattering into their walkie-talkies, and just leaving her sitting there on the ground next to the elevator.

This guy should be prosecuted for aggravated assault, at the least.

Ravens release Ray Rice after new video surfaces

Baltimore Sun Staff
2:28 p.m. EDT, September 8, 2014
The Ravens have terminated the contract of running back Ray Rice after a new video surfaced Monday morning showing Rice hitting then-fiancee Janay Palmer in an Atlantic City casino elevator in February.

The video appears to show that after each hit the other in a Revel casino elevator, Rice threw a punch with his left fist, knocking Palmer off her feet and into a railing. A previously released video showed the aftermath, with Rice dragging his now-wife out of the elevator.
The release of the new video by TMZ Sports comes less than 24 hours after the Ravens lost 23-16 to the Cincinnati Bengals with Rice serving the first game of a two-game suspension, and 10 days after the NFL announced more severe punishment for domestic violence.

An NFL spokesman said league officials had not seen the video from inside the elevator until Monday.

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator," league spokesman Greg Aiello said. "That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today."

In announcing the new domestic violence penalties on Aug. 28 after public backlash to Rice's two-game suspension, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a letter to all 32 NFL owners that he "didn't get it right" when he handed down Rice's punishment in July. The new penalties include six games for a first offense and a potential lifetime ban for a second offense.

"My disciplinary decision led the public to question our sincerity, our commitment, and whether we understood the toll that domestic violence inflicts on so many families. I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values. I didn't get it right," Goodell wrote.

Rice, 27, was charged with felony aggravated assault in the case, but in May he was accepted into a pretrial intervention program that allowed him to avoid jail time and could lead to the charge being eliminated from his record.

The Revel casino where the incident took place closed Sept. 2.

Selected by the Ravens in the second round of the 2008 draft out of Rutgers, Rice rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns, and caught 369 balls for 3,034 yards and six touchdowns over six NFL seasons.

The release of the video also comes as the Ravens prepare to play the Pittsburgh Steelers in a nationally televised game Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium.

Rice is the Ravens’ all-time leader in total yards from scrimmage (9,214) and he ranks first in the NFL in that category dating back to the 2009 season. He also is the first player in franchise history to rush for 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons and he ranks second in franchise history behind Jamal Lewis in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.

State Sen. Bill Ferguson, a Democrat who represents parts of Baltimore, announced on Twitter Monday morning that he made a donation to the House of Ruth in the amount of the price he paid for his Ray Rice jersey several years ago.

Ferguson said he gave $75 to the nonprofit, which serves battered women and children, after watching the video. He said he was inspired, in part, to take action for his daughter, born just 7 weeks ago.

He said he wanted to make the donation as a way of “transitioning the ugliness into productive action.” Ferguson said he wishes he had asked more questions about the situation in the past, instead of depending on the NFL to evaluate the situation.

“I just felt bad about the whole situation,” Ferguson said. “Seeing the video today was pretty horrific. It was swept under the rug with the two game suspension, and seeing [the violence] so clear and present, made  me feel guilty about the whole situation and withholding judgment in the past.”

His tweet inspired at least one other person to donate to the House of Ruth.

Marty Conway, a former vice president of marketing with the Orioles who teaches sports management at Georgetown University, said the NFL has a big job ahead to satisfy the concerns the video will raise in the minds of fans.

“It’s definitely not behind them,” Conway said. “The larger issue is the credibility of the league in these types of investigations.”

Conway also noted the timing of TMZ’s posting of the second video. Its release at the start of the NFL season was intended to have an impact, he said. If it had been released two weeks ago, it would have drawn less attention, he said.

And had the public been more satisfied by the way the league addressed the Rice situation, Conway said it’s less likely the second video would have ever been seen publicly.

Still, Conway said, the damage to the league will be minimal.

“We’re still going to have record ratings,” Conway said.

Baltimore Sun reporter Yvonne Wenger contributed to this report.

Good. The Steelers always have trouble stopping him.
And, oh yeah, he's a pig for punching the woman he supposedly loves - or any woman - like that.
Will the Raiders now sign him?

What college and pro sports have come to: Monster bodies, zero morality, thugs for advertising money.

Sports "fans" ought to cut them off at the cash. No stadium attendance, no TV viewing, no radio listening, no website reading, no merchandise, etc.

When the league and the owners keep people like Rice in the game, it reinforces they can take their "violent black male" mentality from their ghettos, into fame and fortune in America.

As I suspected, it is being rumored that tomorrow morning it will come out that the NFL and the Ravens had seen the complete video.

If that is true, Roger Goodell should also be shown the door.

White House On Ray Rice Video: 'Hitting A Woman Is Not Something A Real Man Does'
« Reply #13 on: September 09, 2014, 04:03:18 am »
In response to a question about a newly released video from February showing Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice violently knocking out his fiancée in an elevator, The White House on Monday strongly condemned violence against women and urged men to band together to stop it. The comments came shortly after the Ravens announced that Rice's contract had been terminated.

“This administration and this president do believe strongly that the scourge of violence against women is something that needs to be aggressively combated,” said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest. “I don’t want to comment on the individual decisions made, in this case, by an individual football team. But you have seen the president and the vice president make very forceful public comments in talking about how important it is for men in particular to step up and step forward and make clear that violence against women is something that is not and cannot be tolerated.”

Earnest said he was unaware if President Barack Obama has actually seen the video, but added that as an avid sports fan, he had followed the controversy.

Janay Rice Slams Media For 'Horrible Nightmare' Following Video Release

ByTOM KLUDTPublishedSEPTEMBER 9, 2014, 9:27 AM EDT

Ray Rice's wife broke her silence on Tuesday, a day after video surfaced showing her being knocked unconscious by her husband inside an Atlantic City hotel elevator.

In a post published on her Instagram account, Janay Rice defended her husband, who was cut by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL on Monday, and criticized the media's coverage of the episode.

"I woke up this morning, feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend," she wrote. "But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare itself. No one know the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing."

Her Instagram account is private, but a screenshot of the post was published on Twitter by Jeff Zrebiec, a Ravens beat writer for the Baltimore Sun.

The post can be viewed below.

The surveillance footage from February that was obtained by TMZ showed Ray Rice punching Janay Rice, then his fiancee. Previously, the only footage that was publicly available showed the aftermath of the incident, which led to the player's indictment by a grand jury and a two-game suspension from the league.

The couple married a day after the indictment.

They appeared together at a press conference in late-May and, on the same day, a tweet sent from the official Ravens Twitter account indicated that Janay Rice took some responsibility for the incident.

The tweet re-emerged on Monday after the new surveillance footage was released, sparking even more outrage at the team. By late afternoon, the Ravens deleted the tweet from the account.

The kidnapping and rape of Nigerian girls, forcing genital mutilation on females of all ages, forcing girls into slavery, all that Islamo respect for and treatment of women is quite okey-dokey for the First Sports Fan.

Ex-FBI director to probe NFL’s handling of Rice

Ex-FBI director to probe NFL’s handling of Rice

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller will lead an independent investigation into the NFL’s handling of the Ray Rice’s suspension for domestic violence, the league announced Wednesday.

The NFL said the investigation would be overseen by NFL owners Art Rooney of the Pittsburgh Steelers and John Mara of the New York Giants. The announcement was posted as breaking news on the NFL’s web site.

The NFL also said the results of the probe would be made public.

Lawmakers have criticized the NFL for initially only suspending Rice for two games after surveillance video from an Atlantic City hotel showed him dragging his unconscious fiancé from an elevator.
Rice acknowledged he had punched the woman, who later married him. But he did not receive a heavier punishment from the NFL until Monday, when a new video showing the knockout punch from the elevator emerged.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has insisted the league didn’t see that video, but an AP story on Wednesday referred to an audio tape that appeared to show the league was aware of the tape.

On the audio recording, a woman at the NFL’s office is heard acknowledging the video and saying “you’re right, it’s terrible.”

The NFL’s handling of the issue has led to questions about whether NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will survive the episode.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) told The Hill on Tuesday that Goodell should “seriously consider” resigning.

Still....to present another POV:

IMO, Rice is a victim of double jeopardy.

We all say the original video of him dragging her out of the elevator like Fred Flintstone.  She was unconscious.  So...tell me, WTF did anybody THINK  happened in the elevator??  Why should a public viewing of the punch cost him a year's suspension and possibly being blackballed from the NFL?

IMO, he should be paid in full for the remaining 14 games on the schedule....and he should sue the NFL and Ravens in court.

Furthermore, regarding the head of NOW calling for Goodell's scalp.

I am sick and damned tired of going to CNNSI.com and ESPN.com and getting hit with the latest scoop on a social issue.  SCREW THAT!

I go there for sports....a place where I can totally invest myself in the MLB pennant races and the Redskins' trying to make Bob Griffin into a viable QB.  (IMO, he sucks and should be benched immediately)  Don't want to read about Michael Sam...or abuse of women.

A running back's career is only a few years.  Ray Rice was for all intents and purposes genuinely sorry for what happened.  Just because we get the opportunity to see the actual punch shouldn't alter the original punishment.

TRENTON, N.J. -- The pretrial intervention program offered to Ray Rice in the assault case involving his wife was granted in less than 1 percent of all domestic violence assault cases from 2010-13 that were resolved, according to New Jersey Judiciary data obtained Friday by "Outside the Lines."

Rice and his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, were arrested on Feb. 15 and charged with simple assault after an incident at an Atlantic City casino. Janay's charges were later dropped, but on March 27, an Atlantic City grand jury increased Rice's assault charge to aggravated assault-bodily injury in the third degree causing bodily harm and one count of simple assault. If convicted of the felony, Rice faced a penalty of three to five years in prison.

Rice's defense attorney, Michael J. Diamondstein of Philadelphia, applied for and was granted pre-trial intervention for Rice, a remedy that allows defendants to avoid conviction if they complete a court-ordered set of requirements. According to New Jersey's pre-trial intervention website, PTI is used in criminal cases that don't involve "violence" and for "victimless crimes."

....and he will 'win'.
