Proposed Calif. Law Requires Protective Eyewear in Porn

In a recent amendment to a law regulating the porn industry, porn stars would be required to wear protective goggles.

The bill, which initially garnered attention by requiring the use of condoms in pornographic films, also requires that “personal protective equipment be visible in the final product of an adult film” so as to ”prevent contact of an employee’s eye; skin, mucous membranes, or genitals” with, well, most any kind of bodily fluid that might reasonably be present. The bill also mandates the use of gloves when touching contaminated laundry, plastic and disposable materials to clean up sets, and lubricants for use with condoms.

Porn stars are divided on the issue of condoms, some in support of the new regulations and others against. Porn Stars Cindy Starfall and Sovereign Syre told Huffington Post in October that they would like the option to use condoms because some directors and producers don’t allow them to. However, other porn stars, such as James Deen, say that the law will push porn filming out of California. “People will most likely move production out of Los Angeles,” Deen said. “Hopefully this measure passing will help us [adult entertainers] get more organized in the future and that, along with Los Angeles losing our business, will allow people in politics to start seeing us as an asset.”

The law is currently stalled in the Senate rules committee.

If Obama and Sebelius hear about this, they'll mandate that churches have to pay for the goggles .

Rubber gloves... protective eyewear... sounds like the law was written by somebody trying to bend an entire industry to his own peculiar fetishes.
