Gun Groups Slam GOP ‘Betrayal’ on Suppressors, AR Pistols

The Gun Owners of America (GOA) and other leading Second Amendment groups are slamming House Republicans over what they’re calling a “betrayal” of gun owners in the newly unveiled budget reconciliation bill.

While GOP lawmakers have proposed eliminating the $200 tax on suppressors, GOA says this keeps them under ATF regulation, “missing the mark and failing to deliver on GOP promises. “

GOA said the legislation omits language to stop the regulation of 40 million lawfully owned AR-style pistols with stabilizing braces, which had been a top demand from gun groups and manufacturers. “This isn’t a compromise, it’s a betrayal. Lawmakers knew it, and they chose political convenience over principle,” said GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt.

The bill GOA members are supporting is the Hearing Protection Act. The bill is aimed at removing suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA) that GOA says Americans no longer have to beg the federal government for permission just to own a piece of safety equipment.

U.S. House Passes Reconciliation Bill, Removing Suppressors from the National Firearms Act

Earlier today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.1 the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which included Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act, completely removing suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA).

The addition of Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act to H.R. 1 is a massive win for NRA members and gun owners everywhere.

John Commerford, Executive Director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), released the following statement:

"This morning, the U.S. House of Representatives passed President Trump's One, Big, Beautiful Bill, which includes the complete removal of suppressors from the NFA. This represents a monumental victory for Second Amendment rights, eliminating burdensome regulations on the purchase of critical hearing protection devices. The NRA thanks the House members who supported this bill and urges its swift passage in the U.S. Senate."

So where is the news the NRA is condemning congress for the government still controlling suppressors and you having to "register" with them (putting you on a list). The GOA has made their position clear, lets see the NRA do the same, they sure grabbed all the glory with a press conference claiming this was a victory quick enough.

I will not get a suppressor because I don't want the government sticking it's nose in my business. It is none of their business (understatement edit)

That in actuality, the weapon still makes a somewhat loud report!

I have personally seen a late 1930's German pistol whose report sounded like someone snapping their fingers. No attachment on the barrel either.

Sadly, it was lost in a tragic fishing accident.

Where I used to hunt, the neighbor built silenced .22LR Henrys for City Animal Control hunters. My Remington 512 .22 LR with it's 25 inch bbl, shooting subsonic ammo, was quieter than his silenced rifles.

Yes... I often thought I would have a suppressed .22 for dispatch on the trapline. If you do it right, with subsonic ammo, there ain't much more than a 'tick' sound.
