Kroger now dispensing heroin antidote sans Rx

Milk, eggs, bread and the heroin antidote. Kroger groceries in Louisville now have them all.

Tim McGurk, public affairs manager for the chain's Louisville Division, told the Courier-Journal Monday that all area pharmacies can now dispense naloxone [pronounced nah-lox-own], which can quickly restore breathing after an overdose of heroin, fentanyl or a prescribed opioid painkiller. Customers don't have to have a prescription. Pharmacists will educate the recipient about the rescue drug, including how to administer it.

"We see the impact of this on families we serve in our pharmacies and it's devastating," said Rene Kendrick, Director of Pharmacy for Kroger's Louisville Division. "Our staff was very eager to help provide families a way to be prepared in the event they had an emergency."

Some areas suffer more than others but from what I can tell, this heroin epidemic is virtually everywhere even to the utmost outreaches of the USA; in Alaska. This article is on Kentucky. Another article was about a huge bust in Australia.

Another reason, why I think a strongly secured border is needed.

Important issues; not so many minor issues discussed.

I was reading yesterday that the trend to legalize marijuana and medical marijuana had cut heavily into the profits of the cartels, and so they started bringing in heroin instead.  They've found a way to make a higher purity and combined that with price cuts, targeting those that are addicted to pain meds, which are very expensive on the street.  Now the addicts have a much cheaper high but the high purity is too much for them.

Heroin is a response to the Oxy crackdown. There are lots of pill addicts out there. When they can't get Oxy for their "pain", they turned to cheap heroin.

BINGO!

But despite high-quality research demonstrating the direct link between the crackdown and skyrocketing heroin rates, the nanny-states keep pushing it.  Delaware instituted strong prescription restrictions, allowing them to successfully lead the nation in a heroin crime wave.  Plus, they get the associated crime and deaths.

Here's the national picture on heroin deaths... Look at that skyrocketing "success"!

I saw numbers somewhere that half of Colorado'[s pot industry is legal and taxed, now, the rest isn't. That had to cut into the cartels' market, but If I was them, I'd be working a chain of franchises and supplying them in the states where its legal, above board. Why not? They'd still make money and gain market share.

As for the heroin, It isn't just a question of purity, but it is being cut with fentanyl, and the combination is potentially lethal.  I know a kid who is in a CDU now (thankfully) who was rolled out of a pickup cab at a convenience story and hit the ground, clinically dead. The clerk gave him CPR, ER administered naloxone, and they got him back. (God must not be done with him yet.)  He said he'd been told (also from sheriff's detective) that the fentanyl it was cut with was the reason he OD'd.
How God must weep at humans' folly! Stand fast! God knows what he is doing!

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

They are involved already.

I am fed up with the government's war on pain and sinus medication.  Why should the rest of us be punished because of those that abuse medication?

war on medication??
