25 countries sign statement calling for end of war in Gaza
ABC News, Jul 21, 2025

Twenty-five countries have released a joint statement calling for the immediate end of the war in Gaza and accusing Israel of not allowing sufficient aid in, demanding it must do so to comply with international humanitarian law.

"We, the signatories listed below, come together with a simple, urgent message: the war in Gaza must end now," the statement began. "The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths. The Israeli government’s aid delivery model is dangerous, fuels instability and deprives Gazans of human dignity."

"The Israeli Government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law," the statement further said.

The statement is signed by the foreign ministers of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K.

Well, just 170 more countries to go before they have the full set.

If they'd have attacked Toledo, Ohio instead, I wonder if we'd pay ANY mind to what other countries thought... If Gaza had knocked down the towers in NYC, they'd be nothing but a parking lot

Ain't nobody else's business. And certainly none of ours.

So when will Hamas decide to end the war?

Shootings, Devastation, Hunger: Israel Fails to Address Gaza’s Power Vacuum
NY Times, July 21, 2025

Over the weekend, Israeli soldiers shot Palestinians near an
Israeli-backed aid site and a U.N. convoy. Both episodes pointed
to Israel’s refusal to allow new governance structures to emerge
.

For a year and a half, experts have warned that Israel’s failure to plan for a power transition in Gaza would lead to anarchy, make it harder to deliver aid and stymie efforts to defeat Hamas.

A sequence of shootings in Gaza over the weekend — one near Gaza’s southern border, another at its northern edge — have highlighted the accuracy of those predictions.

On Saturday, Israeli soldiers opened fire on civilians near a food distribution site run by Israeli-backed private contractors. On Sunday, Israeli soldiers opened fire on civilians as crowds gathered near a convoy of food trucks sent by the United Nations toward areas controlled by Hamas. The Israeli military said its soldiers had fired “warning shots” to deter people who posed a “threat.”

Supporters of the Israeli-backed system used the episode on Sunday to highlight the failures of the U.N.-led system. Those favoring the U.N. system said the killings on Saturday illustrated the failures of Israel’s approach.

[...]

Israel has devastated much of the territory, destroyed much of its infrastructure, decimated Hamas’s leadership and hindered its ability to provide social services and law enforcement in most of the territory.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has also repeatedly decided against creating a system of transitional governance — whether through formal military occupation or the empowerment of Palestinian alternatives to Hamas. In particular, he has prevented the return of the Palestinian Authority, which governed the territory until Hamas seized power in 2007.

The upshot is that, after nearly two years of war, much of Gaza has no functional governing system. That has led to chaos in much of the territory, on both the way to the Israeli-backed aid sites and along the routes used by U.N. convoys.

Compounding the situation, Israeli soldiers are repeatedly using live fire to contain unrest, instead of using nonlethal forms of crowd control. And amid widespread food shortages after Israel’s aid blockade between March and May, civilians are also ready to risk death by Israeli gunfire to avoid death by starvation.

“There’s a blame game, and everyone is looking at the technical details and about how the aid is distributed,” said Shira Efron, an expert on aid systems in Gaza at Israel Policy Forum, a research group in New York.

“But the bigger issue is the lawlessness and the breakdown of governance,” she added. “After 22 months of war, it’s anarchy in Gaza. And without addressing the core issue of what should happen next in Gaza, there won’t be a solution.”

That failure to find a solution has led to Israel’s growing diplomatic isolation. On Monday, 25 countries, including Britain, France and Japan, called Israel’s conduct “unacceptable” and demanded that Israel end the war immediately.  (Note:  The statement is signed by the foreign ministers of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K.)

Mr. Netanyahu has said that Hamas must be completely defeated before detailed postwar plans can begin. But his critics, including many in Israel, say that it is harder to defeat Hamas without planning for its replacement.

So when will Hamas decide to end the war?

When they finally decide that their lives are more important than killing Jews.

Golda Meir understood these people. Sometimes the enemy cannot be expected to act rationally and the response can only be sudden, savage, and complete.

That's the only way to end a war.

There's the rub. Nothing is more important to a Muslim than killing Jews. Not his life, nor the lives of his family members.

So, Hamas is going to surrender and return the remaining hostages?

Sadly you're right.  And I don't see it changing until the Muslim religion goes through a reformation the way other religions of the world did a couple centuries ago.

Never happen!  Hamas is a puppet of the Mullahs in Iran 100%.

Israel should have gone full Dresden on Gaza.

Presume the hostages are already dead.  Carpet bomb north to south.  Herd the Gazans to the Egypt, and let the Hamas-collaborating United Nations deal with the Gazans.

Declare Gaza an exclusion zone for the time being.  Over time, let settlements encroach into Gaza, and annex Gaza.

There cannot be a two-state solution when the Palestinian Arabs are dedicated to destroying Israel.

Hamas is a puppet of the Mullahs in Iran 100%.

Turns out Hamas had a lot of help ......

In January 2006 Gaza held what turned out to be their last parliamentary elections. Hamas won a bare plurality of votes (44 percent to the more moderate Fatah party’s 41 percent) but, given the electoral system, a strong majority of seats (74 to 45).

Fighting broke out between the two political parties. When a unity government was finally formed in June 2007, Hamas broke the deal, started murdering Fatah members, and, in the end, took total control of the Gaza Strip. Those who weren’t killed fled to the West Bank, and the territories have remained split ever since.

This split is Netanyahu's dream come true and for the next 16 years he would do everything in and around his power to make sure Hamas survived. Preventing the unification of the two territories prevented a viable two state solution to the decades old war, a solution Netanyahu vehemently opposed.

Since 2007, Netanyahu has helped Hamas stay in power,  playing a cat and mouse game with them -- sending them close to $1 billion unaudited dollars with one hand and "mowing the grass" with the other ---  until Oct 7, when his strategy blew up in his face.

Islamic teachings do the dehumanization... from the time a babe leaves the tit in Gaza/Iran, it is taught to fight to kill Jews and take over other countries by any means necessary.

I'm sure there's truth to what you say here ⬆️ .  I'm just not sure the hate in Gaza is due to ancient Islamic texts.

If you're unsure, we can go back to 1948 and search for a historical reference.

Are you suggesting the hate is not in compliance with ancient Islamic texts --- but a reaction to an outside impetus?

Sadly you're right.  And I don't see it changing until the Muslim religion goes through a reformation the way other religions of the world did a couple centuries ago.
THAT will NOT happen.

Change even one dot of the Koran, and it is punishable by death.
By contrast, how many versions are there of The Holy Bible?

There will be no change in their religion, no Reformation. Their Great Schism is the difference between Sunni and Shia, and I suspect that is as far as that will go.

Either way, it calls for the subjugation or elimination of the Kaffirs and Infidels--the Dar al Islam is for believers.
