NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - After record-setting rainfall triggered widespread street flooding across Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard parishes Monday, forecasters say another round of heavy storms could drench the area Tuesday (April 22).

Louis Armstrong International Airport reported 4.38 inches of rain Monday, setting a new daily rainfall record for April 21. Rain totals in parts of Algiers and the Lower Ninth Ward reached between 9 and 10 inches, according to preliminary observations.

The National Weather Service warns that the metro area could face a repeat, as conditions remain primed for flash flooding. The Weather Prediction Center places south Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast under a level 1 out of 5 risk for excessive rainfall, meaning isolated flash flooding is possible.
