In a statement released at 10 p.m. Wednesday night, the Medstar Washington Hospital Center said Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), shot and seriously wounded at a baseball practice on June 14, is back in intensive care.

"Congressman Steve Scalise has been readmitted to the Intensive Care Unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center due to new concerns for infection. His condition is listed as serious. We will provide another update tomorrow, July 6."

Two weeks ago, the hospital said Scalise was making "good progress" and would be transferred out of ICU. "He remains in fair condition as he continues an extended period of healing and rehabilitation," the hospital said on June 23.

Prolonged hospitalization is a fatal infection just waiting to happen.

IIRC post op infections are always a big risk when someone has been opend up as many times as he was in such a short period of time.

Yep. And with high fragmentation comes the possibility of necrotic tissue somewhere. Add in that the intestinal damage must have been pretty bad, and I'm surprised this hasn't been a problem already.
