Six Great Immigration Solutions

The 119th Congress began on January 3, 2025. The success of this Congress to provide Americans with a better immigration policy will be measured by its ability to introduce and pass immigration bills in the categories below.

Mandate E-Verify
This immigration solution makes E-Verify permanent and mandatory within one year, and requires Social Security, Internal Revenue, and Homeland Security to collaborate on a program to identify unauthorized aliens, many of whom also commit some form of identity fraud or theft.

S. 1151, the Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act (Grassley)
This immigration solution makes E-Verify permanent and mandatory for all U.S. employers, phasing-in its use over a period of a few years. (See Enforcement Challenges: It’s illegal to hire an unauthorized worker…but legal to never verify that authorization.)

H.R. 251, Legal Workforce Act (Rep. Calvert)

Musk’s primary threats pose danger for Republicans
by Caroline Vakil - 07/05/25 6:00 AM ET

Elon Musk is threatening to primary Republicans who voted for President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” posing a challenge for the president and his allies as they look to defy midterm headwinds.

Musk vowed earlier this week that Republicans who supported Trump’s megabill “will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth” as the Tesla CEO has reignited his feud with Trump in recent days.

Republicans see the comments as unhelpful, with some saying if the threats come to fruition, it could risk diverting resources away in an election environment that historically hasn’t been kind to the president’s party in power.

“One of the most destructive behaviors that we’ve had in cycles where we’ve been unsuccessful in Senate races … are those in which we have expended massive resources in intraparty warfare,” said one Republican consultant who’s worked on Senate races.

Ever since Musk ended his stint at the White House, the billionaire has been a vocal critic of Trump’s major policy bill, taking particular issue with the projected trillions of dollars multiple analyses say will add to the deficit.

The House narrowly passed the final version of the bill on Thursday, and Trump signed it Friday evening at a White House Fourth of July event.

But Musk’s frustrations reached a new point on Monday when he said he would back challengers to Republicans who supported Trump’s agenda-setting legislation, while saying he would also look to protect Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), a prominent opponent of the bill who has drawn Trump’s ire.

The Tesla CEO also suggested it was time for a new political party.

HARLINGEN, Texas (Border Report) — The Department of Homeland Security is putting 17 miles of “waterborne barrier” in the Rio Grande in Cameron County in deep South Texas, Border Report has learned.

More military border zones likely in South Texas, Cuellar says
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has signed a waiver to expedite construction, the agency said in a news release Thursday. This is the sixth waiver signed by Noem for border barrier construction projects along the Southwest border.

The river structure is to be built south of Brownsville, across from Matamoros, Mexico, according to a memo obtained by Border Report.

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – A truck driver is facing federal smuggling charges after U.S. Border Patrol agents pulled 13 migrants from the cab and flatbed of his semi.

The stop took place on New Mexico State Road 26 between Deming and Hatch, N.M., as border agents patrolling the area conducted an immigration stop on the truck just after midnight on June 26.

The driver stopped after the agents activated their flashing lights; the agents interviewed the trucker – an American citizen – and began their inspection of the vehicle. They found an individual hiding in the cab who turned out to be a foreign national with no permission to be in the country, the Border Patrol said in a statement to Border Report.

A more comprehensive sweep of the commercial vehicle revealed that 12 more migrants were squeezed in a compartment under the flatbed trailer, the agency said.

The Real Danger from Iran Lies Within Our Borders
Commentary
June 23, 2025

By Brian Lonergan

The escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, particularly following recent U.S. airstrikes, have reignited debates about national security. While much of the focus remains on Iran’s military capabilities—its ballistic missiles, drones, and proxy militias—the greatest threat to American safety may not come from overseas but from within our own borders.

The unprecedented surge of Iranian nationals crossing illegally into the United States through our porous southern border under the Biden Administration represents a clear and present danger. We have no way of knowing whether these individuals are garden variety migrants or sleeper agents poised to execute a catastrophic attack on the scale of 9/11.

This vulnerability, exacerbated by decades of lax border policies, validates the Trump Administration’s aggressive efforts to secure our borders and deport potentially dangerous foreign nationals. It also underscores warnings from law enforcement experts like border czar Tom Homan, who have long argued that our neglected southern border is a national security crisis waiting to explode.

Since the Biden Administration took office in January 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reported a staggering increase in encounters with Iranian nationals at the southern border. According to CBP data, over 1,500 Iranian nationals were arrested at the southern border during the Biden presidency, and nearly half of them were simply released into the U.S. The agency also reported that over 70,000 migrants from countries designated as state sponsors of terrorism, including Iran, have been apprehended since 2021.

USCIS Considers Dismissing Asylum Claims for Those Who Entered the Country Illegally

Last week, CNN reported that U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) is considering dismissing asylum claims filed by people who arrived in the United States illegally. These are people who crossed the border illegally and subsequently requested asylum after being encountered by immigration authorities. Dismissal of these cases would render many of the claimants subject to expedited removal.

USCIS has neither confirmed nor denied this report. “President Trump and [DHS] Secretary [Kristi] Noem have given USCIS the ability to use all tools in our toolbox to ensure that the integrity of the immigration system is upheld, fraud is uncovered and expeditiously addressed, and illegal aliens are removed from the country,” said Matthew Tragesser, a spokesman for USCIS.

What is clear, is that the system was massively abused during the Biden administration by illegal aliens who entered the country illegally and filed frivolous asylum claims, knowing that in most cases they would be released into the U.S., granted work authorization, and be allowed to remain here for years while their cases worked their way through the legal system.

As of March, there were more than 2.1 million asylum claims pending in our immigration courts. The vast majority of asylum-seekers who entered the country illegally during the Biden administration had traveled through one or more safe countries without having sought protection before crossing into the U.S. This is a strong indication that they were economic migrants, not people who were truly escaping persecution at the hands of their governments.
