Just looking at the Pope, I think he should be sending some of that food he's obviously enjoying to the "poor, miserable" immigrants.

Pope blasts Texas AG Paxton's suit to shut down migrant-aiding Catholic charity

In a rare TV interview, Pope Francis lambasted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's attempt to shut down an El Paso-based Catholic charity that assists migrants, even calling the state's legal action "madness."

Francis' comments came during Sunday's episode of CBS's 60 Minutes. During that interview, taped in April interview at the Vatican, journalist Norah O'Donnell asked the pontiff what his thoughts were on Texas' bid to shut down Annunciation House, the El Paso-based nonprofit.

"That is madness. Sheer madness. To close the border and leave them there, that is madness," Francis said. "The migrant has to be received. Thereafter you see how you are going to deal with him. Maybe you have to send him back, I don't know, but each case ought to be considered humanely, right?"

“It’s a joke. Don’t take it badly,” says Pope Francis, laughing as he and @NorahODonnell discuss their family heritage. https://t.co/kUqnmR9g8l pic.twitter.com/wdFl4FdNyr

The Pope was referring to a suit filed earlier this year by Paxton's office seeking the closure of Annunciation House. The suit accuses the nonprofit of facilitating illegal entry to the United States, alien harboring, human smuggling and operating a stash house — all claims denied by officials with the charity.

I guess Hakeem missed that part of his high school government class that explains that the Supreme Court was established by Article III of the U.S. Constitution, and NOT Congress, and is a CO-EQUAL branch of government!  Roberts should tell Dick Durbin and Sheldon Whitehouse to go pound sand in their own branch for their attack on Alito (but he probably won't).

Article III of the US Constitution.

Why would Cotton want to leave his cushy Senate seat and expose himself politically (and legally) on Trump's behalf?  Look what happened to Mike Pence.  Tell the guy "No!" once and you're dead to him.

Tom Cotton emerging as a top contender to be Trump’s running mate: Report

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is becoming a leading candidate to join former President Donald Trump on the Republican presidential ticket, according to a report from the New York Times.

Three people “with direct knowledge of Mr. Trump’s thinking” told the outlet that Cotton is on a list of five people considered favorites for the coveted vice presidential nomination, according to the report. Joining the Arkansas Republican are Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tim Scott (R-SC), and J.D. Vance (R-OH).

The report comes after Trump’s Thursday rally in the Bronx, New York, where he told a local TV station that Rubio, Vance, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) were among “many people who would do a really fantastic job.”

Trump has privately said he sees Cotton as “a reliable and effective communicator in cable news interviews,” according to the report. The former president also reportedly admires that the senator served in Iraq and Afghanistan during his time in the Army and that both men are graduates of Ivy League schools.

White House works to correct Biden’s remarks at ‘ridiculous’ rate

While President Joe Biden is known for his blunders and colorful turns of phrase, his staffers increasingly are correcting his words after the fact via strikethroughs in the White House transcript.

The written record of a May 19 campaign speech in Detroit includes no less than nine corrections, a few of which created mini-news cycles of their own in real time.

One was when Biden recalled being vice president during the pandemic, saying “Barack,” meaning former President Barack Obama, told him to go to Detroit and “help fix it.” But Biden was running for president during the pandemic, and Obama had been out of office for three years.

White House admits Bidenflation is ‘literally’ crushing people
By
Washington Examiner

.

President Joe Biden’s billion-dollar debt bailouts are inherently unfair and divisive, so much so that even his allies in the White House press corps are beginning to question their propriety.

On Wednesday, Biden’s White House announced another round of student debt forgiveness. This time, Biden announced a $7.7 billion transfer to taxpayers of debt incurred by 160,500 borrowers who are “public service workers like teachers [and] nurses.” In all, Biden has now erased $167 billion in student student debt for 4.75 million people.

While the lucky recipients now face fewer financial obligations, those obligations do not magically disappear when our president snaps his fingers. The money borrowed by those students already went to colleges across the country. The colleges already collected that money, and they’re not giving it back. The federal government has to borrow money to pay back the debts and release students from the obligations they incurred voluntarily. This increases the national debt and means the rest of us will pick up the tab for the interest payments and principal on Biden’s supposed generosity.

Biden’s student bailouts are nothing more than a transfer of wealth from those who already paid their debts, did not borrow, or did not go to college, to those college graduates favored by Biden. This is not Robin Hood robbing the rich to help the poor, it is robbing us all to pay for a privileged few. It is not fair, it is immoral, and NBC’s Peter Alexander wanted an answer.

Pictures: U.S. Army Vessels Beached as Heavy Seas Hit Gaza Aid Deliveries

Simon Kent 26 May 2024

Heavy seas tore four U.S. Army vessels from their moorings Saturday while they were trying to assist humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza.

Two vessels are beached along Israel’s coast near Ashkelon while the other two are anchored on the beach near the temporary pier built and put in place by the U.S. military, U.S.Central Command announced.

No U.S. personnel were injured by the stormy seas, CENTCOM said, while Israel Defense Forces are assisting in recovering the vessels, and the pier remains fully functional.
