Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin is leading in Utah, according to an Emerson College Polling Society survey released Wednesday.
McMullin is favored by 31 percent of likely voters in the state. Republican nominee Donald Trump has the support of 27 percent, and Democrat Hillary Clinton is backed by 24 percent.
Another 5 percent support Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, and 12 percent are undecided.
The poll finds both Trump and Clinton are viewed unfavorably by a majority of likely voters in the state.
Clinton is viewed favorably by 23 percent and unfavorably by 74 percent. Trump is viewed positively by 24 percent and negatively by 72 percent.
The poll finds 51 percent of Utahns who supported Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) the state's caucuses are backing McMullin and only 29 percent are supporting Trump.

Cool
I've never heard of the polling outfit but at least its not an online poll.
-
If true, it seems that the Mormons have more class this election than the evangelicals who supported Trump.
-
Best news I've heard this week.
-
I'm torn by the news.
Trump is filth, but presumably not as disgusting as Clinton. Maybe, anyway. She's like terminal cancer. He's like probably terminal cancer.
On the bright side, I can give a I-told-you-so-you dumbasses message on FreeRepublic.
People are such idiots. I will never forgive his idiot primary supporters or Fox News.
-
Unfortunately, he's not on the ballot in my state nor qualified as a write-in.

He's running a single state gambit. We will see how this pans out for him.
-
Best news I've heard this week.
I've noticed more articles attacking him lately, but none of them seem to have any substance to the attacks. They seem to be "since we don't know otherwise, he must be a tool of a Bush-Clinton conspiracy".
Unless something changes, I plan to vote for him. Even though he won't take my state, it will show that I don't like the Trump/Clinton mess.

That's my position too. Trump will win Tennessee, unless something radical happens in the next few weeks. But McMullin is an acceptable write-in here, so he'll get my vote.

Trump got squashed in the primaries among church-goers.

@Jewbacca, I'm just curious---are you planning on doing an opus?

I thought mine wasn't either until I found this how to vote for Evan McMullin site with a map of states. Maybe yours is on there too.

Couldn't the point be argued that since hellary's gonna get so many EV's, eliminating the HOR Horror show, that it may be time to get behind a party-Constitution, and not an individual.
-
He's not on my state's ballot except as a write-in candidate (along with 33 other people, including David Limbaugh and somebody named Ameer Flippin).
-
It's amazing just how stupid conservatives are. They are the dumbest people on the face of the planet.
(http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/avatars/avatar_4007_1476388038.png) LOL!

No, not going to bother.

Be advised that your opus on FR will likely be pulled within minutes.
I think mine will be along the line of "Gone Galt."

What would "panning out" mean though? Just winning the state?
-
What would "panning out" mean though? Just winning the state?
That would certainly make a statement. If he did then he's gambling on how the electoral votes pan out across the nation.
For a 3rd party to win a state, in a time when so many are ticked off at the choices offered by the RTM and DTM it might help wake people up to other options.

I need to find out who is qualified as a write-in here in Georgia. Our ballot has only three names. Two are liberals, and the third is a pothead.

He seems to be doing well in Idaho as well. I think he's going to win Utah and here is how he could win the presidency:

The candidate is devoting his time and resources to Utah right now, but has a bigger strategy in mind. His presidential hopes rely on one extremely unlikely and unprecedented scenario: win enough electoral votes to hold Trump and Clinton below the 270 threshold needed to win the presidency outright. An Electoral College deadlock would throw the responsibility of electing a new president to the House of Representatives.
With all due respect @libertybele this only works if Trump holds his own against hellary and that seems more unlikely with each passing day. Many are now predicting hellary will get 325+ EV's. If that pans out for her, it's all over for everyone, 'cept the crying.

THANK YOU !!!
And Darrell Castle is on that list. I didn't want to risk having my ballot disqualified because I wrote in a non-qualified candidate. I want to vote against my Republican (in name only) Senator and my Republican (in proxy to the Speaker) Representative too.
-
Hey, how did this guy qualify as a write-in for President? He was born in Scotland.

Team McMullin @TeamMcMullin 1h1 hour ago
We're having a great day on #TeamMcMullin. Ballot access in 5 more states, lots of good press, online donations up
Those 5 states are New York, North Dakota, Connecticut, Wyoming, and Washington.
-
For the first time in 40 years of voting, I just wrote-in a candidate. Thank God that we can still vote our conscience and for the only true conservative running. Best of luck Evan in Utah.

@NavyCanDo
I'll bet you felt free, lol.
I'll be doing the same when the 8th rolls around.

This guy is in dream land.
Even if the election "went to the House" (in which each state gets one vote and which currently has more Republican states than democratic ones), they'd NEVER choose this guy. Not a chance, zero.
If the House Republicans bolted on Trump, they'd probably consider Pence in his stead.

I will probably be voting for Castle, unless McMullin catches a surge here in the Rockies... If he continues to catch on, I wouldn't mind voting for him.

I doubt they'd try to violate the Constitution and actually go with Pence, though.

First off, they can't pick anyone other than the top 3 Electoral College vote getters. So, let's say McMullin gets Utah's 6, and the other two get 266 apiece. The House can only pick from Clinton, Trump or McMullin. (The same goes if four or more get electoral votes: say Johnson picks off New Mexico and gets 5 of his own on top of McMullin's 6. Johnson wouldn't be on the House ballot because he's not in the top 3.)
Second, remember: McMullin was policy director for the House Republican Conference last year. He has inside connections with the House GOP, which matters.
In the unlikely split scenario―which, admittedly, would require Trump to make a comeback―McMullin stands a real chance of staging a coup.

And the Senate votes on VP so conceivably Pence or even Paine could be voted acting President (until the HoR decided on President, at which time Pence would be VP).
All of this would require HRC to get a minority of EC votes, which simply will not happen, no matter what. HRC is almost certainly the next President.
